This wasn't '1949 that my friend was down there, it was the late 90s & I doubt things have changed. Canada was nothing on Cubas radar until the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was Trudeau Sr who made a very controversial visit to Cuba and really began a connection between Cuba and Canada.
