A little surprised at some of the smaller caliber's being so successful. Guides out west (Wyoming) that I've spoken to preferred 12 gauges if possible but not always easy to carry. First round or two 00 buck followed up by slugs.

Platinum Contributing Member Highmark Posted September 11, 2018 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted September 11, 2018 Not sure on ballistic gel but I thought I seen something on cider blocks where 9mm penetrated better than the .45 ACP. F3600
Cool article, my take from reading the incidents. You never have much time to react and the guys who were LEO hit their targets with few shots.

Platinum Contributing Member Highmark Posted September 11, 2018 Platinum Contributing Member Share Posted September 11, 2018 Reality is it doesn't take much damage to certain vitals to bring an animal down. Might take some time to bleed out but it won't be that long if done correctly. A correctly placed .17 HMR can bring down a Moose. Hell arrows do it.
