It's one thing to have it ,  quite another to do what people were doing with it back in 03 - 09 .   Household incomes of 125k a year yet everyone had 3 kids , new furniture , 2 new cars , 350k house , streetglide in the garage ect ect ect .   Just refi the house or pull equity every 2 or 3 years when it's starts getting too hard to swim or the neighbors come home with a new Volvo .

:bc:

The worst was the trips to Vegas. I can't tell you how many retired people I know took home equity loan or reverse mortgages and gambled them. Now they're fucked and too old to work. So dumb.

You sure know a lot of extremely stupid people...  That is without a doubt the dumbest thing i've ever heard of people doing with their money.

Other than buying a used sled without a tool kit.

One of my friends parents went thru like 2 million bucks, basically their whole retirement account, and now they’re broke at 70. He had to go get a job. Most of it was left at the casino. :flush:

I think if people want to gamble disposable income than fine, knock yourself out. But to gamble borrowed money or "the farm" that's beyond fucked up.

The new tax bill removes the interest write off on home equity loans.

People are free to piss their money away how ever they see fit, but IMO there is nothing more wasteful than gambling. Whenever I hear someone talk about their trip to the casino or Vegas(to gamble) I immediately think they are a fucking idiot.

I would totally go to Vegas but I wouldn't gamble there. Lots of other cool stuff to do there.

I feel the same way. We go to vegas regularly. I dont win or lose more than $20 on any given trip. I gave up a lot of my life earning what i have. Im not planning to give it away in a scheme that is rigged against me.

I'm planning to go Vegas next November for the automotive shows and a convention. My gambling will be my wife playing some slots. Catch some over priced shows, meals and do the tourist stuff.....

I went there a couple years ago on business and had a blast. Lost $40 and was pissed. It's not for me.

Yea. I will play a little black jack here and there but it has to be the right seat at the right table. I definitely dont play every time we go to vegas. My wife will play a few slots sometimes while we are waiting for a show to start.

We go to Vegas for the events. AMA Supercross, NHRA, SEMA, Nascar, CES. Its fun to people watch in vegas.

Hopefully they can budget in the cuts but if not let it continue.   EVERYTHING in govt should be cut.

Drinks are free while you gamble in Vegas. So as long as you keep a handle on it, it’s fine. We went into a pub and paid $20.00 for two drinks that would have been free 100 feet away if we were gambling. So from then on it was gamble to get a drink then walk. That’s the only way I stood a chance of winning in Vegas.

There was a time where more farm failures in Iowa were attributed to gambling than anything else.

To a point I agree.   I don't go to a casino once every 3-5 years and I still play the lowest dollar blackjack table they have.

I'm not much of a drinker these days. And I don't mind paying for my drinks. Spend $14 on a vodka tonic or lose $1400 in the casino? I'll gladly pay for the drink.

We have some friends who are big Vegas goers. They are always trying to drag us with them. Funny how they justify their losses. They come away like they are winning because they had $2500 set aside for gambling and they came home with $600. #winning!

For anyone with a HE interest deduction did it make or break you and would have it pushed you over the 24k standard deduct and lower rates?   More ignorant outrage.
