Now Canada oil producers can send it to China and other global markets that will pay more for it. Government is the problem on much of the cost, not necessarily the industry. Don't get me wrong, the oil producers aren't mother Teresa, but if government would butt the fuck out it would absolutely be cheaper. Up here the phrase is access to tide water, and BC and many native activist have fought it tooth and nail, mostly on the false narrative that it will somehow increase climate change. It will not. It makes no financial sense to send crude that far by rail or truck, but a pipeline changes the equation. Now, if we can get a pipeline of natural gas to the coast, that would help the climate. Our keystone pipeline in the US may just have to reverse flow from the Gulf of Mexico just to feed the upper Great Plains and Mid West refineries as Canada sends it oil global. Would put a strain on prices as well down south in Texas and the Gulf of Mexico region if the upper middle of the country doesn’t have enough oil to keep its refineries going. I think the days of cheaper oil and prices in the middle of the country compared to the coast regions will shrink due to Canada’s building of that pipeline.
