I've heard this is true on the college level but not so much in our area K-12, but then my son went to the U of M, in Minneapolis. He had one professor tell him to never bring up a counter point of his lecture's on his political views or he'd fail the course.

I had a high school advanced econ teacher that would make us write 2 or 3 short papers a week on various econ topics.  

The ONLY acceptable source was alternet.net.
