Legendary Winston Cup mechanic "Suitcase" Jake Elder in the pits during the Winston 500 weekend at Talladega Superspeedway in 1981!🏁 He was known as "Suitcase Jake" because he could never settle down with one organization for very long. He is generally considered by the Nascar community as one of the greatest crew chiefs of all time!🏁  He won two championships with David Pearson and helped guide some of Nascar's greats including Dale Earnhardt, Darrell Waltrip, and Benny Parsons!🏁 Jake was old old school, there was no engineering, it was all off the cuff!
He worked for so many teams. But, he was the guy you would call when you needed some help!🏁 If your car wasn't running right, and you were confused, you'd want to call Jake and he could help you fix it!🏁 Suitcase Jake was a one of a kind and was known for his sense of humor! Elders knowledge of a race car was unreal and unrivaled!🏁 He was truly a jewel to the Nascar sport and should never be forgotten! Elder passed at the age of 73 in Statesville NC.πŸπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έcc

Kind of pointless having these cars with a rain set up if they're not going to run in the rain.

Agreed. They should have been ready to go rain or shine.

The lightning was the initial holdup…I think the second delay was worth it.

Silence from the commentators but he was back in 32nd and has charged through the field. Usually he would have destroyed the car by now.

2nd, 5th and 9th....lol

I can't remember ever picking 3 that finished in the top 25 much less the top 10 on a road course. Usually I have 2 in the 30's.

Kyle Busch's spin put him back to 32nd.

I don't think Larson's teammate felt the same as AJΒ  after the race.

Good race though :bc:
