Our Local UPS store is no more

UPS severed ties with our local UPS store for violating mask their company mask order.

A UPS spokesperson says the company will end its relationship with a franchise owner in Vermont who refused to enforce the state's mask mandate in their store.

The owner of a franchise location in Newport previously posted a sign in the front door informing customers that employees inside will not wear a mask — a direct violation of an executive order issued by Gov. Phil Scott last year.

In a statement to NBC5 News on Wednesday, a UPS spokesperson said masks are currently a required part of the company's uniform and it would reach out to the owner for "immediate correction" of the issue. Thursday, the company announced it will sever the relationship at the end of the business day.

"The UPS Store requires masks as part of our uniform standards and the franchisee and the franchisee’s associates in this location were in violation of that policy. We take customer safety very seriously and made repeated attempts to gain compliance from this franchise owner. However, those attempts were ignored and as a result, we have terminated our relationship with this franchise owner, effective close of business Thursday, February 18."

Newport police said they were made aware of the sign weeks ago and made attempts to get the store owner to comply with the state mandate.

"He has flat out told us that he’s not going to comply, the government is not going make him wear a mask and he’ll lock his doors before he does anything," said Newport Police Chief Travis Bingham.

The Vermont Attorney General’s Office issued a cease and desist letter to the business Wednesday, its second notice requesting compliance at the location. The letter included specific references to specific addendums in the governor's order and outlets for additional information from the Department of Health.

"We recognize the importance of being able to engage in commercial activity," the letter read. "At the same time, we all share a duty as citizens to help keep our friends, neighbors, employees and customers safe."

The letter also stressed that continued failure to comply with the mask mandate could lead to court action from the Attorney General's Office.

The owner of the UPS store in Newport refused a request for comment during initial coverage of the controversial signage and again Thursday.

That was pretty stupid of the owner.

They probably knew that the state wasn't going to do anything about it and figured UPS would not following through either :dunno:

Wouldn’t surprise me if the state put pressure on UPS, with their name on the building who do you think gets the blame for any covid cases.

Government really found a neat way to take away rights....by using their power over business licensing and commerce to do it.  They can't force you to comply.....but they can make businesses try to force you by threatening them.  It's quite brilliant.  Goebbels wasn't this fucking smart.

Well it would be best to know that for a fact. Our local ups store is also a dry cleaners and employs one whole person, the owner.

Exactly. Most of them are just like that.

I read this morning that they are continuing on with their printing business in the same location. The next article that I read was where the state is taking them to court for violating the governor's order.

What's important is that everyone wear their magic cloths.

If Trump had told you to wear a mask, you would be on the opposite side of the mask mandates right now.....   :news:
