Gold Member BOHICA Posted February 16, 2020 Author Gold Member Share Posted February 16, 2020 (edited) They should start all the pros at the same time. It would be better then the staggered start Edited February 16, 2020 by BOHICA

It would be better then the staggered start They are released at one minute intervals. Most long distance races are started this way to avoid huge pileups in the first 5 minutes of the race. The start time corrections are reconciled at the first layover. Its much safer this way.

They are moving good again. Team 6 is tyson Johnson. Team 7 is tyler aklestad. Tyler and Tyson were race partners for 15 years. They decided to split the sheets and both picked up new very fast partners from other teams. Im pulling for both 6 and 7 too. Shit im pulling for all of them to win.
AKIQPilot
Check this link out. https://track.irondograce.org/ that is the standings as of about 2 hours ago when they went through Manley. The leaders have averaged over 86 MPH for 170 miles and that included 2 fuel stops on the clock. Crazy speeds for an average when you include two stops. The top teams are arriving in Galena now about 200 miles past Manley. Most of the teams will take their first layover there. Some teams may layover before Galena. I doubt if anyone will go past Galena today. The next 200 miles to the coast is going to be hell. I talked to Paul Sindorf who ran the Rec Class this year. He said its snowing hard on the lower Yukon and the wind is starting to blow. Expecting 40mph winds. The snow on the overland trail between Kaltag and Unalakleet is over 12’ deep. Which team is going to break the trail to unalakleet when everyone comes off their layovers. Gonna be a crazy night/early morning 2

That is just nuts, 400 miles in a car is a long day, doing that on a snowmobile in a race takes some serious fortitude and focus.

Yea No kidding. And they do this every day for a week and cover 2400 miles. It was -32 this morning in Fairbanks when they left the starting line. Just crazy cold to be riding this fast. This is not about the money it is about winning for the glory. Its an expensive race but most of the very top teams have great sponsors that cover most of their expenses. What isnt covered is all the work you miss practicing and training. The top teams have between 3000 and 4000 miles of practice before the race starts. This year they had to drive 400 miles from home to get to practice because the race started in Fairbanks and everyone wanted more time on the river headed toward the coast. I know several teams made 1000 mile runs from Fbx to Nome for practice. But yea. They aren't in it for the money thats for sure.
