we need those what we don;t need are more sociology,  philosophy, womens studies etc majors coming out of school 100k+ in debt and wondering why they can't get a job and praying one of these libs will be elected to forgive their loans.  If it wasn't for the merchandising part of my daughters fashion degree I would not have paid for that.  Put a stop to my son being a history major because he couldn't tell me he wanted to commit to teaching which is about all that can do for you unless you want to go on to grad school.

Make students understand the loans that they are taking out and justify their loan. If Suzy plans to work at a charity making $22k then she shouldn’t be given $150k in student loans.

It’s way too easy right now.

Society is mainly to blame for that.

good idea. Make it almost like presenting a business case as to how you will go about paying back the funds requested.

The time to educate them is before they head off to college but instead of requiring basic finance class we have them take art and music and other useless shit to graduate HS

Yep. Nobody would loan an 18 year old $150-200k on a house or a business loan with no way to pay it back but it’s normal for student loans.

Reality is it wasn't as common until the fed govt took over student loans.

I’m right there with ya.  They’re learning stuff over in Japan at like the 6th grade level that our students don’t start to get into until college.  Sadly, our education system just isn’t competitive any longer.  Probably has been failing us for a long time.

Parents have a certain responsibility do these things as well.

Kids are 21st century learners being taught in a 19th century environment.

Personal finance should be a required HS course.

Big time. The one major ingridiant in a successful school district is parents who are involved in their kids education.

And when it comes to picking a major, it is the parents responsibility to explain the difference between a career and a hobby.
