Edmo Posted November 11, 2018 Share Posted November 11, 2018 A firebreak is a strip of bare land or vegetation established or created to retard fire. Purpose. Firebreaks are used to prevent the spread of wildfire and control prescribed burns. I’ve also seen them cut small sections completely to regenerate the forest. When the canopy is 40-60 feet in the air, the sun doesn’t reach the ground and very little new growth occurs. Opening spots up creates new wild flowers, new growth, and benefits the animals that live on the forest floor. This is two reasons why you want to cut trees down.
