No, the argument is you need 1/2 to more like 2/3 your pre-retirement income. So for someone with 100K/year income, 6K a month is what you should target. The average American (and Canadian) likely has less than 25K in total savings. How does that look for retirement? Take your income and take 2/3 of it and have a plan to get there.
