Jeb Bush trashes Trump on eve of GOP convention

Recommended Posts

Washington (CNN)Jeb Bush is carrying his crusade against Donald Trump to the doorstep of the Republican convention, saying that he is not the future of the Republican Party even as it prepares to nominate him.

Bush, once seen as the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, remains one of the most prominent anti-Trump holdouts in the GOP. In an op-ed for The Washington Post published Friday, Bush acknowledged that Trump had capitalized on legitimate frustrations with American politics.
"They have given rise to the success of a candidate who continues to grotesquely manipulate the deeply felt anger of many Americans," Bush wrote, saying the nominee harkened back to an 1850s political party. "Trump's abrasive, Know Nothing-like nativist rhetoric has blocked out sober discourse about how to tackle America's big challenges."
Bush's op-ed continues his vehement opposition to Trump. During the primaries, he and Trump regularly traded shots on the campaign trail, with the real estate mogul memorably labeling him "low-energy." After Bush dropped out following the South Carolina primary, he vowed that he would not vote for Trump and does not plan to attend the Republican National Convention.
In his op-ed, the former Florida governor implored Republicans to protect their control of Congress, and called on the party to "reintroduce civility, ideas and optimism back into politics. Let's find ways to campaign and govern inclusively. Let's find ways to ease the angst and fear of people, without cynically feeding it."
Bush, a lifelong Republican from a family that produced two Republican presidents, also floated the idea of supporting the Libertarian ticket in the fall.
"I haven't decided how I'll vote in November -- whether I'll support the Libertarian ticket or write in a candidate -- but I do know there are a lot of things Republicans can do in the coming months to lay the groundwork for rebuilding our party and the foundation for a true conservative renewal in our country."
Bush isn't the first anti-Trump Republican to suggest that he might vote Libertarian this fall. Last month, 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney also said he would consider voting for the Libertarian ticket, though he noted he had policy differences with them.
The Republican National Convention begins Monday in Cleveland.

I just don't understand why the repubs aren't backing Trump. They may not agree with all of his ideas, but it's not like Hillary will be any better :wall:

The Party just cannot seem to pull it's head out.  I think some of those boys ran their face prematurely and now if Trump wins it, their days will be numbered.  Ironically, and maybe by design a bit, the R's own party backlash toward Trump is drawing more of the undecided voters thinking if his own party is against him, he's gotta be decent.  Hell, I don't know.  Shit, the more violence there is during his convention will also draw him more votes.  Up is down, black is white, guilty as hell is innocent.  Wacky shit!

One thing playing in Trumps favor right now is the world of shit going on around us.  Hillary inspires about as much confidence in the realm of safety as the "hood" in S. Chicago.  I still cannot believe she said what she said about the French attack..then tried to back peddle and re-answer.  "Opt for aggressive intelligence gathering."  :wall:

Republicans politicians got beat at their own game, in their own house. Republicans are sick of these establishment politicians forced down their throats.

    McCain, Bush, Romney, pffft.

Trump wasn't my guy, but screw Hillary ....not even close.

Maybe.  But it'd be my guess Hillary is dreading that debate.  Trump is gonna be rough on her.  My bet is her staff is finding a way to make it backfire.  Cuz if they don't.....she's gonna have a hill to climb with the intelligent voters.

Isn't that what is got him the votes in the primary's? The American people are sick and tired of Washington insiders running this country.  Maybe it's time to stir things up and not always be politically correct.

I don't think so, the pressure will be on Trump not to look like a total buffoon, he is going up against a formidable politician who has been through the wringer more times than most Trump supporters can count on all of their attached digits.

And FTR it's Trump who has the hill to climb with voters that have an IQ north of 95.

Really. I think Trump has a better chance of coming around to their way of thinking than Hillary does. Don't you?

Oh indeed!  I'm seeing all kinds of "enlightened" liberals on here.

Glad to see you back though.  While you still rank pretty low on the intellectual barometer, you are head and shoulders above what's left here.

    :bc:

And SR will be tugging at your zipper again in no time....just go ahead let him feed.

Of course, unscripted public interaction is Hillary' down fall.

The more people see & hear from her the more they dislike her.

Fuckin YAHTZEE!!!  And Trump is clearly not the average politician.  It's no holds barred with him and she's not used to being spoken to that way.  And let's not forget, Trump may be an ass, but he's no slacker in the war of words and negotiations.

Again, I think Hillary is NOT looking forward to him trying to bully her around the stage.  And if she faulters, he's moving in for the kill.

    What a fucking shit-show!

The only thinking Trump has a way of coming around to is his own, while he is a very successful RE developer and reality TV start he shown time and time again he does not have the temperament to be POTUS and the majority of the voting public sees this. As far as the Republicans are concerned they probably feel they can at least rationalize policy with the former Young Republican and Senator from NY much better than they can with the reality TV star.
