did Polaris build the fuel tanks?

They spent years looking for a sealant for the seems but could never find something that could stand the heat. Leaks like a siv when cold but when the airframe heats up the tanks don't leak. Even when it lands got it doesn't leak.

this was one of my fathers best friends... I heard stories as a kid in the bar and the garage that were likely classified or probably off the record when he was a test pilot.

he was a great man, I cried at his funeral for my father who passed before him.

I knew people that worked on the engines.  Even by some of todays standards the J58 was exceptional.  An air breathing engine that could work from taxi way to Mach 3 at altitudes that could have been as high a 100,000 feet.

Got to see one of these up close at the the Air Force Museum just outside Elgin Air Force Base in Florida.  Coolest thing they had there.  LA to New York in just over an hour.

Got to see the Habu in “89 at Oshkosh. The last pass they made was with afterburners lit. I never heard a jet with that resonance before. I was surprised how long and flat it was sitting on the runway. It looked super black. Like the paint absorbed light.
