We don't know how rare earth is with its seemingly perfect conditions that not only support life but possibly let it go from microbs in water to us today and everything in-between. Statistically it would seem likely there are millions if not billions of other similar planets in the universe but we just don't know. Many people don't like looking at things from a statistical perspective or better yet only when those statistics fit what they want it to. Just like the aliens always seem to have human form the other assumption is that because their civilization might be millions of years older that means they automatically must be so much more advanced than us. Well maybe "evolution" on other planets didn't evolve into more and more intelligent creatures and maybe...just maybe there are physical laws of the universe that cannot be achieved or overcome....like light speed or that worm holes or the ability to bend space to travel vast distances in shorter periods of time. I love it when people claim "oh just give mankind time...it will overcome or achieve those things" and with the advancement of AI we will do this and that. No we likely never will ever travel at light speed if you understand Einstein's theory. As an object approaches the speed of light, the object's mass becomes infinite and so does the energy required to move it.
