Sales, property, FICA, fuel, communications, travel. I'm talking about adding ALL taxes in and it adds up in a hurry. My effective fed rate is generally in the upper 20% to low 30% range. Generally speaking I don't write off a lot of stuff that many do. Its just not worth the hassle if you are audited. I'll bet you are much higher when adding it all in. My instructions to my accountant were, I want all the black and gray, the IRS can have the red...and ask me for some of the gray back if they want. I got hosed pretty bad one year though due to a stock sell mistake...my bad. DAMN IT! Those fines and penalties along with the interest I didn't know they were charging while I was pleading/fighting my case were amazing. I got ripped up the middle and didn't even get a chance to "grease my crease". Imagine if was a member of a Tea Party or something! HOLY SHIT! Crooked fuckers. But if it is something that complicated, who is to say that it would be found out in the US> For as many stories of Canadians dying on wait lists there are more stories of people suffering because they don't meet the criteria for treatment. The health care is a huge part of it but that isn't part of my everyday life. On a daily basis living in a safe country where politicians aren't owned by the NRA does more to enhance my way of life.
