If Lenin were alive today, he would be proud of the way much of the so-called “mainstream media” is behaving by carrying out his wishes and dropping any pretense of objective, fact-based reporting. Much of the media coverage of the Kenosha riots and the Kyle Rittenhouse trial provides a clear example of what happens when the media abandons truth in favor of promoting a political narrative.

The acquittal of Mr. Rittenhouse of murder on all five counts did not come as a surprise to anyone who watched the trial but those unfortunate enough to get their “news” from liberal news sources were astounded that Kyle Rittenhouse was found innocent. Why? Because some in the latter group of media outlets lied to the American people about the facts of the case, Mr. Rittenhouse, and those he shot in self-defense. No, some of this reporting wasn’t just in error or based on interpretation, it was just plain false. Some, like MSNBC, continue to lie to this day.

The list of lies told by media about the Rittenhouse case, and subsequently debunked in a court of law, is far too long for me to include in this column, but the media narrative can be boiled down to this: “Kyle Rittenhouse is a white supremacist whose mother drove him across state lines with an AR-15 to shoot Black Lives Matter protesters.”

These are all false.

Here are the facts:

1.Kyle Rittenhouse is not a white supremacist. The men he shot were all white and he told Tucker Carlson this week that he is not racist. Despite the prosecutor's attempt to connect him to the Proud Boys, a neofascist group that embraces political violence, an expert analysis of his phone showed he "had no interest in any militia-style organizations."

2. His mother did not drive him across state lines, nor did he bring his legally owned AR-15 across state lines. It was stored in a safe near his family’s home in Wisconsin. A 17-year-old is allowed to own a rifle in Wisconsin as long as the barrel is at least 16 inches long, which is why the firearms charge brought by the prosecution was dropped.

3. He did not go to Kenosha to shoot anyone. Instead, he and his friend were invited to join other adults who had been asked by the owners of a used car lot in Kenosha to guard the property. The night before, 100 cars had been burned when police abandoned the town to rioters. He legally took his gun along for protection against the violent rioters burning and looting the town.

4. The three rioters Rittenhouse shot, all white, had chased him and attacked him, two after he had fallen to the ground. The two attackers who Rittenhouse killed were convicted felons, one of abusing five children ages 9 and 11, and the other of multiple violent domestic abuse incidents. The surviving attacker, ANTIFA “medic” Gaige Grosskreutz, testified that Rittenhouse didn’t shoot him until he (Grosskreutz) pointed his loaded pistol, a Glock 9mm, at Rittenhouse’s head.

In the end, a case that was brought to trial by a politically motivated leftist prosecutor ended in a slam dunk “not guilty” verdict on all five charges. Thankfully, a competent and fair judge, who was appointed by a Democratic governor, by the way, made sure the trial was fair, and a randomly selected jury produced the only verdict that was appropriate under the law.

The Rittenhouse trial is over, but we now have a bigger issue to tackle. What should be done with those media outlets who purposefully distort the facts to push their leftist agenda? The Rittenhouse case is just the latest example. It is now clear that the Trump-Russian Collusion story was a hoax concocted by Democrat-connected operatives, some of whom are now under indictment in the Durham probe, but the media still knowingly pushes it. It also won’t be too long until the January 6th “insurrection” hysteria will be shown as just another leftist/media hoax.

At the very least, victims of media lies need to sue them out of existence, but we need more. Just as the Second Amendment doesn’t allow us to commit crimes with a firearm, so the First Amendment shouldn’t provide a shield to those who knowingly lie to destroy people.

We need a reckoning, and we need it soon.
