How Outrage Over Vaccine Mandates Became a Mainstream G.O.P. Stance

WASHINGTON — Like other Republican governors around the country, Tate Reeves of Mississippi reacted angrily to the coronavirus vaccine mandates President Biden imposed on private businesses. Declaring the move “terrifying,” he wrote on Twitter: “This is still America, and we still believe in freedom from tyrants.”

There is a deep inconsistency in that argument. Mississippi has some of the strictest vaccine mandates in the nation, which have not drawn opposition from most of its elected officials. Not only does it require children to be vaccinated against measles, mumps and seven other diseases to attend school, but it goes a step further than most states by barring parents from claiming “religious, philosophical or conscientious” exemptions.

Resistance to vaccine mandates was once a fringe position in both parties, more the realm of misinformed celebrities than mainstream political thought. But the fury over Mr. Biden’s mandates shows how a once-extreme stance has moved to the center of the Republican Party. The governors’ opposition reflects the anger and fear about the vaccine among constituents now central to their base, while ignoring longstanding policy and legal precedent in favor of similar vaccination requirements.

“Republicans care about getting beyond this pandemic every bit as much as Democrats do,” said Dr. Ashish Jha, the dean of the Brown University School of Public Health. But, he added, “politicians are certainly happy to exploit this issue for political gain, which is why I think the Republican governors are up in arms.”

The fact is the vaccinated that are screaming for everyone to get vaccinated are doing it for one reason and one reason only.   They think it will somehow protect themselves.   People like MC could give a shit about the unvaccinated getting sick.  If you are vaccinated and it works you should have no worries.

Even the VP tweeted about protecting the vaccinated?   Huh?

This is the part that is rather mind boggling, the vax either works or it does not.  The herd stupidity group was told 70% to reach herd, then 80%, well Israel and the UK at at 90% and have the highest case count since the pandemic began, so at what point do the dumb sheep realize, it simply does not work.  But lets keep injecting everyone until hopefully it does.  Lets also attach a digital ID just for extra.  Ok.

What is that saying again doing the same over expecting different results.

The focus on Influenza vaccines has typically always been to protect yourself especially if you are vulnerable.   Yes I know this virus is more deadly to the vulnerable but that again points to whom its most important to vaccinate.  The idea we are going to vaccinate children who virtually are not impacted by this at all is insane.  Same could be said with healthy people up to a certain age.

Exactly! How they can justify pushing this on kids is insanity and those that advocate for this need a good thumping! It makes me mad, despite all the side affects, hospitalizations and deaths after getting the vaccines, they can somehow justify giving this experimental vaccines to children. Bizzaro world is right! O.o

Healthy young adults, adolescents and children who contracted the virus have been the least likely to develop severe complications from COVID-19, including death. In fact, 100% of the COVID-involved deaths of Canadians under the age of 45 as of July 31 had at least one other disease or condition certified on the medical certificate of death. The proportion of those with at least one other disease or condition decreases with age, ranging from 93% for those aged 45 to 64 to 89% for those aged 85 years or older.

More kids have been shot in Chicago this year than have died from COVID nationwide.

"By repeatedly vaccinating the vaccinated, we can help protect the vaccinated from the unvaccinated. And the vaccinated. And the twice-vaccinated. Getting vaccinated is an important first step towards getting vaccinated again. And again. Get vaccinated - it's important."

Lol no it dose not . But nice swing and a miss . I personally know 2 people who had both shots and ended up in icu.

But it dose make sure when you do catch a covid you can also spread it around just like before the Trump shots but almost worse because you are more likely to be a A symptomatic spreader taking no real caution . Congratulations.

is that how it was sold initially? Nope....it was only AFTER the breakthrough infections that they started talking about the reduction of serious infection. Remember the 95% efficacy rating.

I don't see the flu vaccine on the list, aren't they similar, respiratory viruses? There have been several cases where people have had severe reactions to the covid vaccine and people are hung out to dry without the manufactures held responsible, If they mandate it, someone needs to be held responsible for these adverse reactions.
