Gold Member 800renegaderider Posted September 3, 2021 Gold Member Share Posted September 3, 2021 Why did they go through all this trouble to disable them they should have just flown them out and saved the tax payers millions of dollars. 2

The assumption all along was that the US military had done a spectacular job at training the Afghan army and they’d use those aircraft to defend their country. That proved false. The US military didn’t effectively train, nor did the Afghans show any real ambition to defend their country. So to answer your dumb ass question, there wasn’t time to fly the aircraft out. You know, the aircraft that previous administrations loaded up Afghanistan with.

It also talks about how much of an arsenal was left, on the aviation forums I'm on they talk about bringing in Mechanics from Iran to help make the aircraft serviceable. The article states even on some aircraft entire wheel assemblies were removed, what a joke, an hour job and it's back in the air. The Taliban have been having parades and fly overs showing their captured equipment.

How many bases are well within flying distance of Afghanistan couldn’t fly to any of those in the same time it probably took them to take the props and weapons off and whatever else they took off. FFS if there gonna disable them at least do it the cash for clunkers way take out the engine. Plenty of sand there to do that. America spent $83 billion arming and training the Afghan army over the past 20 years. I believe that’s probably a huge underestimate. The assumption was that they’d defend their country upon the pullout. Guess what? The entire fucking thing collapsed in 24 hours.

So the air force should’ve flown a shit load of pilots into a country who’s government collapsed and risked having them blown out of the sky? Good idea! Dumb asses. The simple method for disabling an aircraft permamnantly is to destroy the propriety parts of the craft. A 10 year old could figure that out. A couple well placed grenades would also do it.
