Still free money.  If they made that money they would be taxed on it.

What are banks making on PPP loans?

Looked it up

Under the program's rules, banks were promised fees on a sliding scale for processing loans in the program. They earned a 5% fee on loans under $350,000, 3% on loans between $350,000 and $2 million and 1% on loans above $2 million.

Businesses pay taxes on what they earn after revenue and expenses, surely you understand this.

From the article:

Though the PPP funds themselves were nontaxable, the IRS was attempting to tax the use of the funds on business expenses that cannot be deducted from tax returns.

Mu self I am fine with it . It was just mad money for most that got it . Pretty much just no payroll for a mo or 2 out of there end .

I know of 2 close buds who used the money they did not have to use for payroll 1 got a new pimped out Logan the other got a Burant edition rpm so that is over 100k pumped back in to the economy lol .

But imho I don't think it should be taxed as a stand alone deal . But counted as income . And just like all income tax if you have the losses to cover so be it .

You pay 5% tax to the state for the 100k
