Trump tells Lester Holt: Don’t fact-check debates

I agree with Trump on this. Moderators should ask the questions and make sure everyone gets their allowed time. Let other's fact check what is said.

That's what he is saying.  Whatever "score card" there may be can be done up the next day.  This isn't a televised litmus test.  And it isn't a debate between the moderator and the candidates.

I didn't really think it was this hard to understand.  But apparently, for some that aren't very well-read, it just means a lot of people are "afraid" of something.  :dunno:

A lot of people would.  And it's not fair they are trying to stop it.  Is three really too much to ask for in a debate?  No.  But again, he will pull votes from the liberal side of the Dem voting base....and really pull the Bernie supporters.  In a race this close, it could mean the election.

And indeed, I think he should cancel and delay.  Fuck them (media).  And canceling or delaying won't hurt him a bit.  In fact, I think it would be good for him.

He will attract more conservatives than liberals. Libertarians are about less govt and personal responsibility. Liberals don't like that shit. They like programs...

If he can present himself as a rational, trustworthy and intelligent candidate he will be the best and most qualified candidate.

Spot on.  We don't need to have the moderators debating with the candidates.  It is up to the audience to be the judge.  If you don't think something is correct, look it up.

Nothing wrong with either candidate being called out for a lie.

Fact of the matter is you boneheads know Trump is going to step on his dick at some point in the debate

No its not but not by the moderator who runs the risk of being wrong. Let fact checkers do that, they have the advantage of being able to verify their claims to ensure accuracy.

Its just as likely that Clinton tells a bold faced lie as Trump does.

Vince " the  silver spoon"  , has no problem with a "moderator" taking sides  in a debate ,, as long as it's the liberal side,

I agree.  But that should not happen by the moderator during debate.  I'm all for the candidates calling each other out though.  LET'R RIP!

And us "boneheads" probably know that.  But we also know watching that will be much better than watching your candidate lie through her teeth again while the media swaddles her.

The argument for moderator score-keeping ignores the purpose of the debates. Moderators do not perform a journalistic role during the debate; their job is to facilitate the process, not comment or report on it in real time. They exist to put both candidates on stage at the same time to challenge each other, and to force them to respond to the same question at the same time. If one candidate tells a whopper, the other candidate has plenty of opportunity to challenge them on it. In fact, one measure of preparedness would be whether a candidate recognizes falsehoods or mistakes and can set the record straight.

Look, it’s a democracy, and citizens have responsibilities beyond just watching TV. If the only source of information you’re getting is what the candidates tell you on TV, then that’s your choice. But I think we’d be crazy to take anything any politician said to us at face value and just assume it’s objective truth. The debate is a really important part of the education process during a campaign, but it is not a standalone thing.
