Given all else being equal and taking into account no other variable, will increasing the length/depth of the lugs or cleats on a tracked vehicle such as a snowmobile cause a definable change in the vehicles final drive ratio. For the purpose of this question final drive ratio is to be defined as the distance the vehicle moves with one full rotation of the drive system input and not accounting for any variation in the drivetrain such as CVT etc.

I am open to suggestions but I think the above about covers it.

Ok...since you dont understand the wheel or coin concept.....imagine 2 rubberbands....one being slightly larger in circular diameter than the other one.  Now use a sharpie and mark each band.

  • lol you really think it matters?  We may as well be explaining quadrature amplitude modulation to a Victorian era hooker. Enjoy your easy money.

It is being driven. That's the proper verb describing what happens to the track. Not rotated, turned, etc.

The definition of rotation also includes a single central point. Hence the circle part...

ro·tate
/ˈrōˌtāt/
verb
  1. move or cause to move in a circle around an axis or center.

WE know it's driven. Then what do you call it when the track has been driven  one complete turn?????

One complete cycle or sequence.

Yes a track rotates around the drivers.

OK, so are you gonna' bet, or not????

We'll call it one complete track cycle. So are you gonna' bet now????

Technically no, it moves in an arc around the drivers, it doesn't make a complete circle

NO!! Me and Benny are basically in agreement on the hypothetical question. I just don't want it complicated by referring to input, as that is covered by the statement " ALL OTHER FACTORS BEING EQUAL. "

Now, get bent, and go pay your rent.

 So how exactly is this calculated?   What's the allowable tolerance if tested real world?

Watch this video and ask yourself what is moving, the track or the skid inside the track?   On a wheel the contact surface is always moving/rolling.   On a track (without spin) it is not.  Where the track is in contact with the ground it is stationary.  The track is the ground so its outer length makes no difference what so ever.   I really don't know what to tell you if you cannot see that in the video.

Completely identical

Sadly 550 stands no chance of understanding or paying, about the same chance he'll quit sucking cock at the truck stop.

I'm no engineer, but it appears s though you two are talking about two different things. @f7ben is talking about the final drive on a snowmobile and @Polaris 550 is talking about the lug heights effect on one turn of the track. The final drive takes pl;ace at the  driver, the track doesn't have a thing to do with it. Sorry uncle naughty, bipolarhooknosedfag is correct as far as final drive on a snowmobile.  Damn, I feel dirty for agreeing with Bhen.

They are the same. I rotation of the track will be the same with 1" lugs or 45" lugs

Gets more circular the faster you go

Still constrained by axles at a fixed distance

You got 20K to bet? I hate to do it to ya' but if you're sure, let's get this done.

Ben is talking the exact same thing as I am. Does lug height affect the outer circumference of a snowmobile track, which there fore alters the FINAL DRIVE RATIO.

Ben and I are in agreement that a longer circumferenece would affect the ratio.

What ben disagrees on, is that the longer lugs change the outer circumference on a sled track.

Somebody, just go to PM and tell me they will take the bet!!

The final drive does NOT take place at the driver.

The track is the FINAL component of a snowmobile POWER TRAIN.

Just like a TIRE is the final component of a Motor vehicle.

WHY DON'T you guys want my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You saw how much I had in my fukken checking account, so why don't you stand up to me, and take that 20Gs?

Does chain length or thickness change gear ratio?

HA!HA!HA! STFU!!! A fukken chain wrapped tightly around your neck would affect your breathing ratio, which I would gladly do!!!            STFU!!!

That's what the whole bet is you fucking brain dead retarded faggot fucking midget. The circumference does not impact the drive ratio 1 bit. Its irrelevant you fucking moron. You are dumber than fuck. I don't think it's an act. You may be the dumbest cock hound on the net
