Probably only reason more dairy farms haven't gone out of business is low grain and soybean prices so I'm fine keeping those prices low to help our Maine dairy farmers since we can't grow good grain out here. 1 hour ago, SnowRider said: No - your post is confusing. Low milk prices and the lifestyle required to be a smaller dairy farm are why many are selling the herd. It is a tough go of it when you are getting the same priced for your hundred weight as you were in the mid 80's with much higher input costs, and have to devote your life to the cows. But by all means, continue buying $1.89 milk at Wal-Mart and complaining about mega farms and how mom and pop can't make it work. What other profession is afforded their career just because....??? Besides - all you small farmers bitch and complain about mega farms but do little to assist a young person interested in getting started. Instead - most farmers sell their land and assets to the highest bidder......even if that is a mega farm. Who takes a little less from a small operator? Farmers are the biggest hypcores around.....with the exception of Union Delivery Boy.
