There's plenty of opportunities to make government more efficient. Cutting costs and slashing services aren't necessarily mutually inclusive. There's no economic incentive to take those jobs, around here if you have the work ethic to show up at a jobsite every day you already have a better job than that. It's an undesirable field right now, of course you're getting the bottom of the barrel. Need workers? Let some more immigrants in. We're busy becoming commie artists or already have a better career thank you very much. There are lots of lazy kids around today. But I remember in the 80's hiring 3 people when I needed 2 because within 2 weeks one of them would be gone because he couldn't be bothered to get out of bed. By the time we caught up, another one would be gone and I'd be left with the good one. Their Moms would call and try to get their jobs back. Sometimes their Moms or Dads would walk kids in to make sure the applied for the job. Or They would call looking for jobs for their kids. I'd politely ask for their name and say thanks. Then I'd explain why I wouldn't be hiring precious. One Italian kid's Dad practically swatted him in the back of the head during the interview when he mumbled an answer. I actually gave that kid a chance because I felt sorry for him. He was dumb as shit though. Couldn't do a damn thing but he actually tried. I have 3 employees under 25 and they are far better workers than the 67 year old guy has ever been. I only had him for 15 years so I don't know what he was like when he was younger. The young guys miss time a lot easier than people use to. They won't drag their asses in to work sick like we use to. But he things have changed. We don't really want people coming to work sick and getting everyone else sick. So you end up putting up with that shit were you would have dumped them in the 80's But they aren't as rough with the machinery and are less likely for fuck things up when they are angry. They also are more willing to think. A lot less "I'm not paid to think" attitude. But hell maybe I'm just more mellow. I don't have to be as tough to prove myself to my old man. Who knows.
