Coronavirus patients delivered to hospital ship Comfort in New York by mistake: US officials By Lucas Tomlinson Published April 04, 2020 Fox News Get all the latest news on coronavirus and more delivered daily to your inbox. Sign up here. EXCLUSIVE - Multiple patients infected with coronavirus were transferred to the hospital ship Comfort from the Javits Center in New York by mistake, three U.S. officials tell Fox News. The number of Covid-19 patients brought on board the hospital ship was estimated to be “less than five,” one official said. This information has not been previously reported. CLICK HERE FOR FULL CORONAVIRUS COVERAGE The patients were transferred sometime Friday, according to the officials. At the time the patients were transferred to the hospital ship Comfort, the initial screening did not indicate they were positive, officials said. The hospital ship is located on Pier 90 on Manhattan’s west side and arrived in New York Monday. The vessel has a “couple dozen” patients on board right now, according to chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman. Part of the protocol before receiving patients onboard Comfort is for a coronavirus test to be performed. The swab test came back hours later, but not before the patients had spent a night onboard the vessel, which is only supposed to treat trauma patients, not Covid-19 positive patients. About a dozen patients from the Javits Center in midtown Manhattan were transferred to the hospital ship Comfort Friday after President Trump approved New York Gov. Cuomo’s request to have Covid-19 patients treated at the Javits Center Thursday. All the patients at Javits Center were then transferred to the hospital ship a short distance away where they were isolated and tested for the novel coronavirus. Up to the point of embarking aboard the hospital ship, the patients had only filled out a questionnaire and had their temperature taken as part of an initial screening process. It’s been reported that half of people infected with coronavirus show no symptoms, according to the latest data. CUOMO DENIES HE’LL ‘SEIZE’ VENTILATORS FROM UPSTATE FOR NYC, SAYS ORDER PROMOTES ‘SHARING’ The Covid-19 positive patients have already been delivered back to the Javits center Saturday morning to continue their treatment, one official said. The Javits Center has been transformed into a 3,000 bed makeshift hospital by the Army Corps of Engineers. The officials called the risk to the hospital ship’s crew “low,” because of the protocols were already in place. “We were prepared with a contingency plan in case we received patients that later tested positive. Immediately upon arrival the patients were isolated while awaiting the test results,” the official added. Another official pointed out this was why the hospital ship did not want to fill all 1,000 beds on board too quickly because the risk of the virus coming on board is so great. The Comfort crew is scrubbing the area where the patients were housed on board. All U.S. Navy medical personnel were wearing complete PPE (personal protective equipment), the officials added. “We have infectious disease specialists on board as well,” another official said. Cmdr. Ashley Hockycko, spokeswoman for U.S. Second Fleet, told Fox News: "While admitting patients who were transferred to USNS Comfort for treatment, a few patients tested positive for COVID-19. "The Comfort has infection control procedures that are followed just like hospitals ashore. Our medical experts on board are well prepared for cases like this, and have taken the appropriate precautionary measures. The patients were isolated and received care aboard the ship while working to transfer the patients as soon as practical to the Javits Federal Medical Station, which is treating COVID-19 patients. The Comfort is capable of continuing its mission.” Right now both hospital ships Comfort in New York and Mercy in Los Angeles do not take Covid-19 patients, but top Pentagon leaders are “reassessing” that policy, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army Gen. Mark Milley, told Fox News’ Harris Faulkner Friday afternoon. 9. I work with 2 guys who each have 10 kids (unsure how old), could be a nice payday!
  10. I'm still off on recovery after surgery, so I forget about "normal" life currently! I was already quarantined before this all started!
  11. MN restaurants/bars closed until May 1 and schools until May 4, so nothing new here.
  12. Dilaudid, Tylenol and Valium for me. I take Tylenol every few days. Only take Valium for muscle spasms and when I have the shakes/tremors. My whole body is a mess! I will most likely need to be fused to c7 or further yet, but time will tell.
  13. There are only one or two opiods I can take, and Percocet isn't one! Yes, they still prescribe them, but usually about 2 weeks worth. I keep some on hand for bad days, otherwise I'd rather just fight the pain. Blood thinner and some inflammation is needed for bone growth.
  14. I’m unable to take Ibuprofen for 6 months as it inhibits bone growth for my neck fusion to take hold with the titanium. In saying that, Tylenol just doesn't work for pain/headaches for me. Now a 3 hour rotation with ibuprofen/Tylenol, has worked great for past surgeries. So long story short, I was already quarantined prior to Corona/Wuhan, and I can't take Ibuprofen, I'm going to kick this things ass yet!
  15. Aside from walking in the neighborhood, I haven't left the house since March 13. Due to recent major surgery and my health issues, best to stay in the house! I was already laid up until well past May, so nothing has changed other than my family home a bit more! I need to start physical therapy, so recovery will be a bit longer, but better than the Wuhan!
  16. Once you've had a few surgeries, it's like a day going to work. Just another day!
  17. I was in NYC for surgery 6 weeks ago, glad I missed all the Corona action. Glad to be back in MN instead.
  18. All of the refineries/fuel terminals have drivers using porta potties. Which spread the virus far quicker/easier than a regular bathroom! I'm glad to be off on medical and not deal with the trucking issues currently. We are running 4 10's right now, no work. Usually run 4 or 5 12's. I feel bad for the guys running OTR, then again, I always do!
  19. We only haul fuel to our own stations, so there is no outside business to attain. Other than customers to a station, but that is very city/market driven. I'm trying to get out of the truck and into the office, I have a bachelor's degree, and trying to utilize experience and education to do so, hard to get out of the truck once you get in it seems!
  20. I'd like to get into management, seems dispatching is the first step unfortunately. Pays far less, but need to take care of my health.
  21. I don't foresee myself going back once I heal up. Time to use the brain and not the body! Thanks. That scar started in 2018 with brain surgery, opened again February 12 for craniocervical fusion! Hopefully done for a few years. Craniocervical fusion. Have craniocervical instability. Essentially my cervical spine can't support my head correctly. I'll probably need fusion further down as well. Appreciate it! Slow and steady! Patience isn't a great trait of mine.
