Are they talking on the Grand Canyon scale?  I've had US boaters call some of the Ottawa class 6. But they were comparing it to their Grand Canyon run which for some reason is scaled out of 10 not 6.

go pro's flatten things out but I didn't see anything dangerous about the two rafting runs.

Tell that to the guy who died 2 weeks ago...

Levels make a difference. The video you showed had everything flushing through.  High was can be dangerous because everything is in the trees.  But in this case the main feature looked washed out. Maybe at lower water it is more retentive and earns the name maytag.

I did! I was right and you were wrong....go figure!

Hell....here's some help. Google "new River Gorge" and look at the first link that pops up. It's a www.nps.gov site. Now read it and tell me what it says. Especially about the Lower Gorge section :news:

Not sure you are ready but here are two links on upper Gauley vs New river.

Ive been going to that area during release season for over 25 years. paddled the cheat, upper yough, upper Gauley and Russelfork. Consensus in our group  is that if you want an easy float trip we could save the gas money and kayak the Ottawa.
