Jesus Christ... I remember waiting at the bus stop with my friends in a blizzard during January wearing a jean jacket and sneakers and getting off the bus to 'feet' of snow as a kid.

we've gotten soft... really soft.

hope to use the snowblower when I get home from work :)

Still shovel quite often, probably more often than blowing it... snowblower is wishful thinking for enough snow to ride around a buddies farm at the moment.

54 is a boomer?

Just got done with my driveway ... guessing there was 5"-6" of some pretty good moisture content snow.  I'm okay with being called soft and using my snowblower   I'd be out there until tomorrow if I had to shovel it!!  Not sure how large your driveway is but I've got a 95' x 25' section and a 50' x 25' that I also clear off.  I've shoveled it when it's light snow, but not this stuff.

Now if we could just keep this snow and build on it!

Bwahahaha! Look at the snow melting, trails closing and Krom getting fucking owned for the umteenth time! What happened Krom? Why does your snow melt during the winter Krom? Why did Southside Racing’s Bruce Gaspardi say they don’t hold races in the the northeast because the snow always melts? Why is that @krom

It’s called climate change and your winter is already over dumbass. :lol2::lol2::owned:

for light fluff up to 6" these work great for pushing it off to the side and blowing it into the yard with the blower.

Why’s your snow already melting Krom? Why can’t New York keep any snow? Why don’t you answer the question why Bruce Gaspardi Jr said they can’t host races in the Northeast because the snow always fucking melts? Why is that Krom? Explain why your snow is melting if climate change/global warming doesn’t exist? :lol2::owned:

Pussy ass Krom is hiding out, crying into his pillow. Cat is outta business, dumb fuck Krom still works at a Cat dealership while the ship has been sinking for years. He’s got no snow and now more warm weather on the way. :lol:Where are your cute little snow photos @krom? Where are your posts showing some lake effect snow that I said would certainly melt. What happened Krom, why is your snow melting? Why are your snowmobile trails closing in December Krom?

Maybe @Bontz can give you a hand job and whisper more climate change denial bullshit into your ear. :lol2:

Wednesday – Christmas Day and the beginning of Hanukkah – will mark the start of an extreme trend for the entire Lower 48.

“All forecast guidance favors an unseasonably warm final week of 2024,” the Weather Prediction Center said Tuesday.

CNN Weather

The latest forecast is the most unusually warm issued by the center on such a large scale in more than 15 years, according to climatologist Brian Brettschneider.

Some forecast models are hinting at the potential for temperatures to soar nearly 25 degrees above normal in the Midwest by late next week. It’ll feel like October in Chicago and Indianapolis if that remains the case.

The West has largely missed out on any cooler than normal conditions in December which is another trend that looks to carry into early 2025.

Temperatures could reach up to 10 degrees above normal elsewhere from coast to coast as New Year’s Eve approaches.

Alaska. That Alaska with plenty of snow and we’ve been able to ride sleds since October. Where when we get snow it doesn’t melt within a week. That Alaska where we don’t post long range forecasts out of desperation. Hoping, praying that we might get *some* snow that doesn’t melt so we can ride our sleds for two weekends in a row?

You don’t have any snow. Your trails aren’t open. This season is another bust in a long series of shit Midwest winters forcing yet another sled manufacturer out of the sport.

Now go try and convince yourself climate change is fake dumbass. Make sure to stay off sled any groups on Facebook or any other forums because NO ONE will agree with you. Fucking climate change denial retard.

Minnesota DNR shares reminders about the snowmobile riding season

From the MN DNR - December 15, 2024

As snowmobile riders prepare for the upcoming riding season, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds riders of important dates, safety tips and registration requirements. While the snowmobile riding season can start as early as Dec. 1, as yet this year there are no locations in the state with suitable conditions for trail grooming. Several conditions must be met before trails are open, groomed and ready for travel:

  • The ground must be frozen. Where trails cross wetlands, 15 inches of ice are needed to support the weight of trail groomers.
  • Adequate snow cover of about 12 inches must be on the ground to allow for trail packing and grooming.
  • Trails must be cleared of fallen trees, signs put in place and gates opened.

While snowmobilers await the arrival of more snow and groomed trails, now is a good time to make sure registrations are current and snowmobiles are in good operating order, review safety training, and check local trail maps for route changes or new trails.

Registrations for new snowmobiles must be purchased in person at a deputy registrar of motor vehicles or at the DNR License Bureau in St. Paul. Renewals of registrations and state trail passes for snowmobiles not registered in the state of MN can be handled in person at these same locations or on the DNR’s licenses and vehicle registrations website.

The DNR shares information about snow depth and state-managed trail conditions on its DNR snow depth and groomed trail conditions webpage. Local trail conditions are often posted online by tourism associations, chambers of commerce and volunteer snowmobile clubs. To find the nearest club, visit the Minnesota United Snowmobiler’s Association website opens in a new browser tab.

Important snowmobile riding safety tips include:

  • Be weather aware and don't ride in adverse weather conditions.
  • Check the trail conditions and weather forecast for the destination before leaving home.
  • Measure ice depth before riding on lakes and rivers. The DNR recommends a minimum of 5 to 7 inches of new, clear ice for snowmobiles.
  • Always stay on designated snowmobile trails. Venturing off trails can result in accidents, loss of trails from landowners, and trespass violations.
  • Don't drink alcohol and ride. Alcohol is a factor in more than 60% of fatal accidents in Minnesota.
  • Always wear a quality DOT-approved helmet and facemask

Snowmobile trails are clear to open but there’s a catch

Hunting season is over, and snowmobile trails are clear to open. There’s a catch, however.

BARNES CORNERS, New York (WWNY) - Hunting season is over, and snowmobile trails are clear to open. There’s a catch, however.

Last week’s lake effect snow made for a great base, but since then, things have warmed up significantly, making for mushy, slushy trails.

That makes things challenging for trail groomers like Sno-Pals Snowmobile Club.

“The groomers actually sink in this mushy type of snow. They can actually do more damage than good. We’re at the beck and call of Mother Nature here to drop the temperatures again, which looks like it’s supposed to happen this weekend,” said Sno-Pals Snowmobile Club President James Hearne.

Sledders need things to cool off. On the below map provided by the New York State Snowmobile Association, you can see a number of North Country trails; the ones marked in red are still closed.

Despite the subpar conditions, Hearne still expects businesses to benefit from trails opening.

“People will come up from any place because they hear there’s snow and there’s trails open. Many didn’t get to ride brand new sleds last year much at all,” said Hearne.

While on-site Tuesday, 7News' Chad Charette noticed there were no snowmobiles at the Cottage Inn in Copenhagen. According to Co-Owner Mary Shambo, it was a different story over the weekend when trails first opened.

“We are definitely busier now that the trails are open. Last week was a good base. Today is not that great in weather but we are definitely seeing a busier season so far,” said Shambo.

As things have warmed up, Shambo says the Cottage Inn has quieted down a bit. She expects business to pick back up whenever snow returns.
