ckf
It's getting to be that time of year again. I just started a 12 pack of tomatoes yesterday. 6 cherry tomatoes and 6 early fruiting tomatoes.vThat should give them about 6 weeks under the grow lights before going outside around June 1st. Anyone else start their own seeds inside or do you buy the plants when it is time to plant?

Doug
I definitely don't have a green thumb and my wife plants some flowers every year so that's our extent of gardening. We have a couple local farmers that will bring in produce and set up a small stand at a couple locations around town that we buy from.

Seems shooting 10 million rodents over the years finally caused the stoppage. Not being home for a few days at a time didn’t really help either. I have 2 great friends that own farms and grow everything so just stopping and buying what we want is convenient.
racinfarmer
1st round of peas are planted, started planting onions and carrots. 1st round of sweet corn will probably go in soon. Put potatoes in the garden on Sunday. Waiting for everything else. 1st year we'll be able to pick asparagus too.

I'll check again tomorrow to see how many more have germinated.
ckf
8 of the 12 tomatoes that I started last Monday are up. The variety on the bottom 6 were a little slower to germinate.

ckf
The 6 larger ones are the cherry tomatoes that germinated faster than the others.
akvanden
Ordered some giant hybrid pumpkin seeds to plant this year that I’m pretty excited about. The fact that I’m excited about it must mean I’m getting old and lame…

He doesn't do the Internet so his daughter bought him a book on growing giant pumpkins. Lots of tips and tricks in the book. I guess it isn't as simple as growing a simple weed. I think last year he got one that was somewhere in the middle 300 pound range. He is shooting for something bigger this year. I think that he mentioned that you remove all of the other pumpkins/buds from that plant and only grow the one pumpkin. Sounded like a lot went into it than just buying the giant pumpkin seeds. Like I said, weed seems easier to grow.
ckf
I transplanted the 6 cherry tomatoes to Solo cups yesterday. Since tomatoes will make roots off of their stems I buried the stems and just left the top couple of leaves above ground.
NaturallyAspirated
New Honeycrisp apple tree is leafing out like wild. Pear trees are peaking out a bit. Got 10 Aspen trees to repot from 1 gallon into 20 gallon tubs. Hand spaded in 50 hybrid cottenless cottonwoods into the shelter belt around the house. Have 10 potted black hills spruce that need to get put in. Got the 8 whiskey barrel pots filled with petunias. Bout ready to move the flats from in the house to the greenhouse. Busy time!! Neal
