I believe the number we were all told back in 2008 was that shale doesn't become economically viable for producers until per barrel prices exceed $60 whereas other extraction forms are closer to half that. I haven't seen more recent figures. One would imagine that technology has improved in 14 years to drive that price of extraction down a bit, though inflation would countervail that a fair bit.
