XCR1250
The largest power producers in China have asked the government to allow for the development of between 300 and 500 new coal power plants by 2030 in a move that could single-handedly jeopardize global climate change targets. XCR1250
China's overseas ventures include hundreds of electric power plants that burn coal, which is a significant emitter of the carbon scientifically linked to climate change. Edward Cunningham, a specialist on China and its energy markets at Harvard University, tells NPR that China is building or planning more than 300 coal plants in places as widely spread as Turkey, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt and the Philippines. XCR1250
China's push for coal is not surprising: China knows how to build coal plants. It is the world's largest coal consumer, drawing more than 70 percent of its electricity from coal, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. China’s environmental issues are well known. So that article isn’t a surprise. American energy companies aren’t reinvesting in coal anytime soon. Carlos Danger
What the worst thing about China and new coal plants is the plants themselves. China bought up the rights to all the old coal tech plants in the US some of the designs go back to the second world war. Plus they are skipping all the coal scrubbing designs completely. To be fair in most cases the coal scrubbing unit is as big or bigger than the plant it is attached to.
