Could you imagine being a cop in Texas and being told you have to go confiscate guns

They wouldn’t do it.  Only the ones that wanted their friends, family and selves dead would consider that order.

Tombstone Gun Law:

Ordinance No.9:

"To Provide against Carrying of Deadly Weapons" (effective April 19, 1881).

Section 1. It is hereby declared unlawful to carry in the hand or upon the person or otherwise any deadly weapon within the limits of said city of Tombstone, without first obtaining a permit in writing.

Section 2: This prohibition does not extend to persons immediately leaving or entering the city, who, with good faith, and within reasonable time are proceeding to deposit, or take from the place of deposit such deadly weapon.

Section 3: All fire-arms of every description, and bowie knives and dirks, are included within the prohibition of this ordinance.

Good lord.   Doesn't mean it was constitutional.

Reality is most Americans would likely hide thier guns.

The best way to get rid of gun ownership is to require a registration.  Poof!  Nobody has them now!

One of the New England states tried this twice.  Nobody registered.  Problem solved!

What guns?

The Federal govt supposedly doesn't have access to who has guns so they would need to go to all the FFL dealers to obtain that access and they only keep it for 20 years.   Good luck with that.

It wouldn't happen nationwide but many local law enforcement agencies would refuse.

It wouldn't happen with every confiscation but some would end up in a shootout.

Most would simply hide their guns.   This means massive penalties and possible incarcerations.   Sorry that's just not happening.

The worst would be another assault rifle ban.   Forced confiscation even with a buyback simply won't happen in the US.

There is going to be something that serves as the catalyst  for a major social disturbance (war).  An attempt at gun confiscation would do it.  So would trying to remove a duly elected president.

Whatever it takes, we are past due.  Way past due.

Neither gun confiscation nor Trump conviction in the Senate is going to happen so any major social disturbance as you put it is a ways off yet.

I actually think it is going to be an event less consequential.  Something small that starts to escalate out of control and spreads nationally.  Something Boston Massacre-ish.
