I wonder what is gonna happen to those selling pot after its legal?

“I am very comfortable with the direction in which the Ontario government is going,” he said, signalling to the dozens of remaining marijuana dispensaries that they will soon be out of business.

“These shops, to the best of my knowledge, are illegal, have always been illegal, will continue to be illegal, and are not contemplated as being part of the regime going forward,” he said.

“It isn’t kind of a Wild West environment, where people can just go out and set up any kind of a shop they want. I don’t think anybody really supports that, except, perhaps, the people that are operating the shops.”

The day of the announcement they were talking to 1 guy and he was disappointed in the setup. "Like they sell tobacco in corner stores, so I don't know why they couldn't sell cannabis there too". :wtf:

What I find interesting about all this is, it seems the government in Ontario wants to grow and sell pot?   that is fucked up.

They don't make beer or booze, but do control the sales

they don't make medicines

they don't make cigarettes

You should be able to buy pot from company X just like you might like Molson products

Between the Liberals wanting to full out grow and control, the conservatives Brown still not sure if it should be legal at all.   This should make buying pot the same way as the last 100 years cheeper.

What a bunch of fuck wads - the very idea of thinking you can in one swoop open up some stores and supply Ontario :lmao:  I think they are under-estimating the amount of Pot sold weekly in Ontario.  There is no fucking way 40 stores will be able to keep up with Vaughan never mind Ontario

I haven't heard much from other provinces other than New Brunswick who signed a retarded over price deal with some supplier

Although many here believe corner stores should be able to sell booze and beer, seems right they can sell pot too.......

I would rather see it in sold in knowledgeable stores,  nothing but pot, hash, oils, and pipes.

by the way Cigarettes should be illegal and put out of business.

Alberta has unveiled its proposed framework for marijuana legalization, which calls for a minimum age of 18 to buy or use cannabis.

Other proposed rules include:

  • Public possession limit of 30 grams (with no limit on possession in private residences).
  • Sales will be in specialty stores, separate from alcohol, tobacco and pharmaceuticals.
  • Limit of 30 grams per purchase.
  • Smoking and vaping in public will fall under existing tobacco laws.
  • No smoking or vaping in vehicles, including passengers.
  • Four plants can be grown per household, to a maximum height of one metre each.
  • Outdoor growing will be banned.

The province has yet to decide whether stores selling marijuana will be publicly or privately run, but the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission will serve as the central wholesaler for all products, ensuring "a level playing field" for large and small producers.

Manitoba

CBC News has learned that the Opaskwayak Cree Nation in Manitoba has taken a major stake in a medical marijuana company, with an eye to becoming a big player in the sale of pot once it becomes legal.

The First Nation, located approximately 530 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, has purchased $3 million worth — approximately 10 per cent — of shares in National Access Cannabis. The privately held company will be traded publicly for the first time Friday on the TSX Venture Exchange.

Justice Minister Heather Stefanson said the government is willing to consider private sales for cannabis and go beyond stores run by Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries.

“No options are off the table right now. We are opening this up to get more ideas about how to do this,” Stefanson said.

“We welcome (Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries) to give their expression of interest as well as all Manitobans with respect to the distribution.”

The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association is urging the provincial government to reveal its plans for regulating marijuana, saying municipalities can't prepare for the change until they know the provincial approach.

SUMA issued a news release Tuesday calling on the province to start consulting and provide a legislative framework.

I wonder is Slugly is going to cash in

Bingo?

In the early 1970's the Band gradually assumed the administration of other programs such as Economic Development, portions of Public Works, Lands and other. Twenty-nine years later, Opaskwayak Cree Nation has a work force of 800 during the summer season to approximately 550 the remaining of the year.  Opaskwayak Cree Nation has  developed a lot for their people such as, a school well known as Joe. A. Ross school for all grades, a Community Plex for the events of bingo, socials and community events etc. In 1995 construction of a hotel known as Kikiwak Inn was built and completed in July 1996. Otineka Shopping Mall was built in the early 1970's and opened in the 1975. The McGillivary Care Home was constructed in 1982  for the elders and a Six-Plex for the elderly.

good for them but they still get public money and that money shouldn't be used for private enterprise unless they kick back a portion of the profits.

I'm pretty sure if you are caught dealing you will get a criminal record for life.  I thought our jails were overcrowded with enough petty crime?

Its like everywhere except Ontario.  Even the grocery stores all have fixed pricing or zero competition.  :flush:

No pot should not be sold at corner stores.

agreed.... Casino Rama is another example of financial stability. At one point it was reported the cut of profits for the Rama Indians was in the proximity of $1M a day. I wonder if they still get a government handout as well.

no government handouts, just the payments they agreed to in the Williams Treaty.

also an FYI, all bands in Ontario share in the proceeds from Rama Casino, not just Rama

I just think it should be a dedicated private sector store and not just run by the government.

so... whats your point

My point is you cant get a government handout and then turn it into private profit generator.

The band has not gotten a "handout" to implement this venture. It would appear that they are self sufficient economically, in fact they are partnering up with other FN to purchase the port of Churchill.

It should be for good reason - knowledge is going to be key

Government is worried about who grows it, leaving it to the private sector means the crime boys are still playing the game.  (They will be no matter what)

We need all the current grow ops to be licensed, let them compete for sales as cost will be regulated to a point.

Either way they will still grow and sell only difference will be lower profits.

I think this is a huge move for Canada, its not possible to get it right the first time out of the gate.  Too many people (like on here) that still think its a bad bad bad bad very bad drug leading to the gateway to hell
