And Flynn lied about it, leading to the charges of lying to the FBI.

too bad this all happened the month AFTER the election hey? And while technically Trump wasn't president yet, it's not unprecedented. Obama did the same thing.

I do see that Trump put himself in a position of obstruction of justice with tweeting that he fired Flynn for lying, get tried to get the FBI to wave off the investigation of Flynn.

I don't know that it will, but Twitter doing him in would be hilarious.

Neal

How is that obstruction?

Well if Trump knew that Flynn lied, and then partitioned Comey to not investigate/let Flynn of the hook, that is a pretty clear case of attempting to obstruct.

The president could pardon flynn at anytime...

Again, that is irrelevant to the possible obstruction.

He seems to have admitted that he new Flynn lied to Pence and the FBI, and it has not been disputed that he asked Comey to back off the Flynn investigation.

The president can, as a matter of constitutional law, direct the attorney general, and his subordinate, the director of the FBI, tell them what to do, whom to prosecute and whom not to prosecute. Indeed, the president has the constitutional authority to stop the investigation of any person by simply pardoning that person.

That doesn't help him now, as the investigation continues, and his admittance is public.

That doesn't make sense.

He could stop the investigation if he wanted.

Why did Flynn plead guilty to a felony with 5 years behind bars.

Its not.  Up to 6 months and a max 9500 fine.

So the Trump has apparently openly admitted to obstruction of justice.

Neal

But he cant under the Constitution....be charged with that..  so your point is invalid.

There is nothing under the Constitution that bars the President from obstructing justice, or be investigated for it, or even charged with it.

Charged or not, the point that Trump appears to have obstructed is a valid point.
