I wonder how much lobbying big education does of Congress.....and said activities impacts legislation.....and how this trickles down ultimately to college affordability and student debt?

Apparently under Obama the regs were changed such that if you had outstanding student loans, but were still attending school, you could defer payment on the loans. Also under Obama the Fed Gov basically took over the student loan market. My plumber was telling me about how his daughter "capitalized" on this "help". Some of the classes she took, which were free for whatever reason, qualified and allowed her to defer payment. She also took traditional classes, in part as an attempt to defer paying on the loans. She played the game......only to discover that while she could defer payment, the interest was accruing on the outstanding debt. According to my plumber, her now outstanding balance doubled as she mostly gamed the system to avoid having to start paying. Currently she owes about $130k with a very avg paying career. But, in a way only my plumber could describe, she's very excited for her upcoming couples massage with her boyfriend!!!! Normally we could blame the banksters for this overt abuse of the weak, simple minded American.......but in this case, the banker is the Fed Gov, and laws intended to "help" always come with unintended consequences.
