I think it's a function of our trade deficit. It's NET US WEALTH leaving the country. Been doing it for 30ish years to the tune of 3-5% of GDP. Those a big numbers, reducing our national wealth, and it trickles down to many kitchen tables.
What you're trying to say is that living costs have risen faster than incomes for the avg US household. Hence the increase in dual-income families, just to keep pace (if that).
We tend to keep people alive much longer than perhaps we should. Technology (paid for by others) coupled with one of the hardest choices one can make...and we end up pouring massive amounts of $$ into folks with no real living standards, or improved prospects.
More bars per mile of groomed trail than most places. Alcohol and horsepower never mixed well. OF has X deaths per year, its sad as they're probably 90% preventable.
