President Donald Trump quietly signed a bill into law Tuesday rolling back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.

The rule, which was finalized in December, added people receiving Social Security checks for mental illnesses and people deemed unfit to handle their own financial affairs to the national background check database.

And yet these same people voted for biden in the last election.  81 million!!

Is there anything on the books regarding illegal immigrants purchasing guns?

BTW, how come we never heard about gun violence during trump like we do now under the president who ran to UNIFY the country?

If these people answer honestly on their 4473 would they be denied?

Why stop at these two why not make all mental health professionals submit patient information to the database?   That will surely make people seek professional mental health help.

About 7% of firearm purchasers are denied sale due to a history of mental illness. It might be a bit more since COVID.

And less than 1 tenth of 1% who lie on their 4473 are ever prosecuted.  Look no further than Hunter Biden.

The mental illness thing and gun violence is just another sack of bullshit that the republicans float.

Wrong, you have to be mentally ill to kill somebody by any means, whether it's temporary or long term mental illness.

Not true. There are individuals who are sociopathic. That isn’t considered a mental illness.

Stop with the bullshit, I don't care what you want to label people. When you kill somebody else regardless of what you're labeled at the time, you are mentally ill.

It’s an important distinction. The courts determine if a person is not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Sociopathy is not considered a mental defect like a mental illness such as paranoid schizophrenia. Sociopaths kill or injure for secondary gain. It’s not a label, it’s a distinction that all civilizations have recognized.

In an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper yesterday, President Joe Biden conceded that his son Hunter lied on a government form when he purchased a handgun in October 2018—a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The younger Biden was a crack cocaine user at the time, as recounted in his 2021 memoir Beautiful Things. Yet he answered no to this question on ATF Form 4473: "Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?"

And if they don't fill out the 4473 or can't, they just keep 500 bucks and in 36 minutes you are off the hook.

Markus Allen, a reserve wide receiver on the Wisconsin football team, was arrested Saturday during the annual Mifflin Street Block Party.  According to the Dane County Sherriff’s office, Allen was taken to the Dane County Jail but was eventually released on bail and has a court hearing on June 26.

According to a report by Madison Police, a stolen handgun was recovered during the arrest.

I’m not as intimately involved with hunter’s case as you’ve apparently become.

Only to keep them in prison not a mental hospital . But really not sure what one I would rather be in . At least in prison if you don't get life they have to let you out at some point

It isn't ?

Personality disordered individuals are still responsible for their decisions. They are not psychotic or delusional. They can determine right from wrong and understand reality. A treating therapist can’t bill insurance for any of the three personality disorder clusters.
