All of this was covered in the Podesta emails in great detail. The Hillary camp tried to sell the Dossier to every media outlet they could both in print and TV with no takers. Every major news organization that looked at the story came to the same conclusion it was unsubstantiated crap. The world learned of the story through Buzz Feed a internet gossip rag that would run stories about alien abductions in trailer parks and who was cheating on who in Hollywood. After the story ran the snakes at the DOJ gave a briefing to then president Trump about the story to which they immediately leaked to the press.
