A few facts about the Standing Rock Issue

The lands being which the protesters are occupying are not reserve lands, they are private lands who's owners have given permission to Energy Transfer to construct a pipeline. The Standing Rock bands makes refrence to un-ceded lands however the reality is that nearly all lands in North America are considered un-ceded one native group or another but the fact remains Standing Rock at this time does not own this land or have any legal claim to it.

The Standing Rock members were given multiple opportunities to participate in various forums to provide feedback on the pipeline however they never attended even one meeting. In fact it really wasn't until Earth Justice became involved that the pipeline became a big issue for the band. 

As for native burial sites and "sacred lands" one must understand that cairns and teepee rings are extremely numerous and are found every where in North America. Pipeline companies employ archaeologists at every stage of construction especially during routing in order to evaluate their significance and avoid as many as possible. It's also worth mentioning that any of these sites are so disturbed that they have no significant historic value, in fact most band members wouldn't even be aware of them if weren't for the pipeline company doing the survey. It should also be mention that the route this pipeline follows is in keeping with Federal and State regulations requiring the pipeline be contiguous and follow previous disturbances in order to protect the environment. As such it follows an existing pipeline, the Northern Boundary pipeline. Any archaeological sites along the DAP route would have been previous disturbed when that pipeline was built in the 50's. 

On the issue of the bands water intake, Energy Transfer has offered to move the bands intake however due to the band refusing to meet with Energy transfer Negotiations on this have stalled. It's also worth mentioning that the bands water treatment facility is currently not operational and hasn't been for quite some time. 

The protest has been anything but peaceful contrary to the bands claims. Numerous arrests have taken place mainly over protesters blocking access to roads which rural residents depend upon and over harassment of those very residents. There have also been numerous acts of vandalism, trespassing, one shooting, and destruction of property. The majority of those arrested oddly enough are from out of state. 

These are just a few facts. So tell me who's in the right? A Pipeline company who followed all the rules and made every effort to address Standing Rocks concerns or Standing Rock who has steadfastly refused to participate in any form of legitimate or lawful dialog during the regulatory process?  

What can we learn from this?  We can learn that we should be careful to allow groups like Standing Rock to subvert the laws of the land. Pipelines just so happen to be the bad guy right now but if we allow them to protest pipeline companies which have legally abided by all laws and regulations what will environmentalisty and natives try to protest and block next?  By allowing such behaviour we setting the stage for another Calidonia or worse.

but every one needs to feel some self worth . so when u don't have a job or a house or a car standing on someone's privet property pretending to care about something because the rest of the bandwagon got dropped there  gives u that false smug self worth feeling .and when the cams show  it really boosts the extreme low self esteem and shows your family on the flat screen  U are not a pile of shit and proves to your dad u can contribute with out a job
