No shit, their populations are Tiny compared to the US. It's a completely misleading way to frame the comparison. The bit about high taxes on the working and middle class in those countries clearly implies Bernie is going to raise taxes on those people too. Bernie's proposed tax plan would leave tax rates the same as they are now for individual making $250,000 a year or less and families making $500,000 or less. On top of that they mention these Scandinavian countries utilize a value added tax for much of their revenue. Anyone who knows anything about Sanders' policy proposals knows damn well a value added tax is antithetical to his views on the economy. As far as the part about trade... What kind of idiot would compare the role of trade in tiny Scandinavian economies to the role of trade in the US economy? Basically the article completely ignores Sanders' actual policy proposals and falsely suggests he wants to implement all kinds of shit he's never supported. So your saying it's nonsensical to compare the US to such a small country? The truth is Sanders is only showing tax revenue about half of the cost of the programs he wants to implement. Yes he has claims of more calculated revenue from certain things his program will create but he doesn't take into account loss of revenue taxes can cause from decreased economic activity. He would have to tax WAY down the income level chart to pay for what he wants to do. There is no way around it. A few years ago, the Ontario Liberal pushed by the communist NDP pushed and received a tax bracket on people making 500K or more. Didn't even last a year before the 500K was lowered to 200K. What's even the point in comparing the amount of billionares per capita between Scandinavia and the US if Scandinavia isn't even using a tax on the rich to fund their safety net? Again, the point is to mislead. 10 minutes ago, ArcticCrusher said: You need to give your head a shake. I've been saying for years comparing what works in a small country to the US is pointless. Dude Bernie would need to tax the MC heavily to even remotely pay for what he wants to do. He also assumes major concessions in wages from the HC industry. Good luck with that. Edited March 2, 2020 by Highmark

Good point, this hit piece completely failed to mention the payroll tax that would replace those people's current costs for private health insurance. Well, except for the freeloaders without health insurance who just run up costs for everyone else when they get sick. Maybe Fareed could have done a comparison of funding social safety nets with a payroll tax rather than a value added tax like Scandinavia instead of cobbling together this misleading bullshit about income taxes.
