****Official 2020 iron dog race thread***

Yep, it's time.  The race starts on Sunday.  All the teams will go through their tech and safety inspection today.

This years race is totally different than all other years.  This years race will start in Fairbanks, the normal finish line. and end in Big Lake, the normal starting line.  This years race is also 400 miles longer than previous years because the course will up to the village of Kotzebue before heading to Nome the half way point.  These changes are very significant.  The first 600 miles will be fairly smooth river running which is the exact opposite of all previous years.  In previous years the first 600 miles were the roughest followed by smooth river miles at the end.  This year the first part of the race is the smoothest followed by the roughest most difficult part of the trail during the last 600 miles.

Several big name teams switched up this year.  Some big teams switched sleds and some big name teams switched partners.  Should be very interesting for sure.

This years field is stacked with great Polaris teams.  There are really only 2 SkiDoo teams with a chance of winning IMO.  Team 7 and Team 6 are both very good SkiDoo teams and both have a very good chance to win again this year.

It’s weird that there aren’t any teams from Illinois? We are very regarded riders.

All the illinois teams are waiting for the groomer to finish before deciding to enter.  Maybe next year a few will sack up and give it a try.

We will also need some bar stops to keep hydrated and talk about how awesome we are.:bigfinger:

surprised Palin and his partner and a couple of other teams are running different sleds,  makes no sense from a maint/spares situation.

It's good to see Todd back in the race.  Troy is a great racer and they should do well.  Troy is from Fairbanks so he will have an edge for the first 1000 miles of the race.

I think they are both on the same brand sleds.  I will send Troy a message and find out for sure.

Maybe it's about time they have an Iron Cane race for the old dogs.

Hahaha.  Todd can still ride with the kids.  He is definitely the oldest Irondogger in the group.  Troy won't be waiting for Todd that's for sure.

I understand Cat not being there but Doos purposeful non-participation in XC racing is just pathetic.

odd considering they came out with a sled called the iron dog that they would not want to make a good showing.

Don't over think it.  There is $100,000 on the line here.  Teams pick sleds they think can help them win that $100k.
