  1. They should be able to fire up the snow cannons tonight or tomorrow night and run them non-stop until they need to build the track. Race weekend will be highs in the low single digits.
  2. If they get a buyer for the entire business, I think it will be Argo. Argo could bring in more of their production, consolidate ATVs, add in snow, and most importantly, expand into the performance SxS category. They already have many former Cat employees and are headquartered in TRF. CF Moto won't buy them, production costs are too high here. Yamaha already bailed on the snowmobile market. John Deere has what they need already for their core markets, utility SxS.
  3. Still lots of them in the airports, especially at MSP.
  4. It amazing the number of people that covid totally broke.
  5. What sort of industry are you in now? I'm in the same corporate rat race and could retire in my 50s.
  6. That sounds like it is for the housewife who never earned an income and got divorced. If they never earned an income so they wouldn't be eligible for SS. I'm in favor of getting rid of the whole thing and replacing it with a forced investment account. FICA taxes are 15.3% of your total wages. Add in an employer match from a 401k and a little contribution from the employee and savings rates would be ~25%. Median household income of $80K, saving 25%, with a 10% annual return in the S&P, after 40 years is $8.9 million. They can afford their own retirement.
  7. The fix for social security will be to raise the retirement age and/or means testing it. The path we are on now is unsustainable.
  8. Even among white collar workers most aren't able to work until they are 70. Have seen many examples where people really slow down in their 60s and aren't as sharp as they used to be earlier in their career. Yet people will continue to live longer and health care in their final years will continue to rise in cost.
  9. Big push now to get rid of PFAS. We are getting pushed to do that and have already removed what we can. The problem now is that Viton seals contain PFAS but that is the only seal material that will hold up to many of the oils and fuels these days and there is no replacement available.
  10. Probably from the same guys selling NOS DeLorean parts yet.
  11. We both know that's never going to happen. Just more tax increases to "invest in the community."
  12. The Mobil 1 HM is going to have more of the seal conditioners in it.
  13. Definitely a good oil. Both lab and real world tests have shown it works great to clean up an engine. There are better oils for wear protection if the engine is already clean. I use Pennzoil Ultra Platnium for our Ecoboost and Mobil 1 High Mileage for the NA engines. There are better oils than the Mobil 1, I've just been running it so long in these engines its not worth switching. My Focus is at 240K and it doesn't even leak or burn any significant amount of oil. Changed that to Mobil 1 when it was new at 2,500 miles and every 7,500 miles ever since.
  14. State Farm seems to be good with boats and recreational vehicles. They were quite a bit less than anyone else for my Lynx. Seems like they all eventually jack the rates up on their most loyal customers. I've gone through half a dozen insurance companies since we bought our house. Our broker handles all the real work but I make it a part time job to make sure I'm getting the best deal on insurance.
  15. Here's my annual premium with liability only, $105 per year. Some of the increases are a cash grab by the insurance companies for sure. It's important to shop around and kick the ripoff companies to the curb.
  16. Costs for vehicles, parts, and labor are all way up. The percentage of total losses is higher now too with all the technology in vehicles. Best thing you can do is find a local insurance broker and have them shop your policies to many different companies. We recently switched to AAA.
  17. Here is my setup but I have very hard water with soluable iron. There is a particulate filter ahead of the softener. The RO system is after the softener and feeds the kitchen sink tap and refrigerator upstairs. Outside faucets are ahead of any filters or the softener. The garage gets both hot and cold soft water. Need to know your water hardness to size the system correctly. On city water, something like this would be fine. https://www.menards.com/main/plumbing/water-filtration-softeners/water-softeners-cleaners/morton-reg-34-000-grain-water-softener/m340012/p-1444429575835-c-8682.htm?exp=false More expensive systems aren't needed, the technology has been out there a long time. Don't get a saltless softener. Run a traditional softener and you will be surprised at how little salt you use unless you have very hard water.
  18. Word on the street is the plant shutdown in TRF is going to be longer than what they have announced. They now have less than 20 engineers. A powersports company can't run on 20 engineers. I'm sure Textron is cutting anything but absolutely necessary costs so they can put the business up for sale. It will certainly go for pennies on the dollar with the market conditions right now. Argo purchasing them makes a lot of sense. Polaris has also had many rounds of layoffs this year also.
  19. Went through to cancel my account online and got this surprise. Looks like they will take 20% off so $127.20 instead of $159.
  20. Kenny Mandryk done racing snox.
  21. No one is above the law!
  22. That's a weird torque curve around 6500-7000 rpm. Be interesting to see what some other folks get on a different engine and dyno.
  23. Be nice, he doesn't even have his EVs and solar panels paid off yet.
