  1. The landscape is indeed changing and the economy in Ontario generally not doing well. Small towns are also seeing the impact of the big box stores like WalMart decimating their business community. I was in Midland a few days ago. There are two malls on Penetanguishene Rd. south of Yonge St. One on the east side and one on the west. Mountainview Mall may as well be empty. Dollar store, Food Basics and a womens' clothing store is about all there is. The rest is empty and currently under construction. The other mall on the other side has a dollar store, Giant Tiger and Service Ontario. Almost forgot the sushi restaurant. Lots of empty space in both. Probably more empty than occupied. Typically the last week of July first of August are the most popular for vacation and therefore the busiest in cottage country. We have been into a lot of our favourite eateries the last few weeks and found them to be far less busy than we expected and talking with the staff they are finding themselves a lot less busy than they expected and staff aren't getting the hours they normally would this time of year.
  2. Only 10,000. True Dope hustled 25,000 in at an unprecedented rate. The government was to sponsor them for 1 year. Now it comes out most of them are suffering from depression and anxiety and need medical help, are not employed, can't speak the language and want another year of government support at a level above what we provide for those who have spent their lives here.

    HOV lanes

what I read was the initial number of permits was 500 and later to expand up to 1000
  4. I wonder if anyone has tracked number of days in Canada vs number of days outside since he started the job.
  5. You're going to be in an even bigger mess with either of your choices. Trump will alienate the rest of the world and Clinton will hug a terrorist and continue to believe that the rules that are in place are for everyone but her. How can a senior government role think it's okay to have a unsecured private email server in her basement and lose thousands of emails oh so conveniently.

    HOV lanes

The dumbest thing they ever came up with in the name of reducing congestion. It just makes it worse. Now they have HOT lanes where you pay to use them with a single person but only have 500 of these permits available. Just another example of government cash grab stupidity.

It's nothing new. Check out the taxes you pay on gas at the pump already. You pay HST on the federal and provincial taxes that are tacked onto a litre of gas. Now you will also be able to pay the HST on the carbon tax on that litre of gas and when they added the carbon tax to your home heating natural gas you will get to pay HST on that as well. You just gotta love the spin the Fiberals put on things. I remember McSquinty promised NO NEW TAXES or INCREASES. Then one of the first things he does is add a Health Surcharge to your income tax. He tells everyone it's not a tax it's a levy and that is different than a tax so he didn't lie.

Ontario MPP's don't have a pension plan. An MPP that has served four years or less at Queen's Park receives a severance equal to six months of his or her average salary; a member serving more than four years but less that eight years earns one years' salary; and any MPP with more than eight years in office gets a severance equal to eighteen months pay. The largest payout, from the last election goes to former cabinet minister Liberal Ric Bartolucci. For his 19 years service, he get's a taxpayer funded 'going away present' of $265,400. Progressive Conservative Doug Holyday, who had been an MPP for less than one year, will take home $77,000. Surprised Wynnebag hasn't found a way to put her wife on the payroll. After all Truedope's wife thinks she needs a government paid staff. It probably won't be long until she wants a third nanny as well. It was just released that she is getting an almost endless supply of free designer clothes so she can be seen wearing them in public and she as well as Truedope don't believe there is anything wrong with accepting the freebies that will promote the designer.
  9. I really don't want to run out of fuel on a sled or a boat. Really puts a crimp in the day for the people you're with. When I get about 1/2 tank on the boat I fill up. The tank is also contoured to the shape of the hull and the fuel gauge simply reads the depth of fuel in the tank so with the V taper on the bottom half of the tank it goes down faster than it does for the top half. Better safe than sorry.

    Ontario Debt

They have to make the payments on that debt and the more it goes up the more they have to tax you and me to make those payments. That's why we are seeing things like HOV toll roads, an opportunity to grab money while they lie to us and tell us it is to ease congestion while it will only make congestion worse. Cap and trade carbon tax which will net the province $B's each year. Then they will charge HST on that carbon tax as well. Tax, levy, it's all the same. Just another way of taking more of your money to pay for their waste.

They are probably working economic policy to get it to that situation. I can remember when interest rates on mortgages were double digit. 1981 I believe was the high when a 5 year mortgage was as high as 22.75%. Great time to be an investor.

    Ontario Debt

As of last Feb. Ontario spends $11.4 billion a year just to service its debt — more than it spends on all social services for adults or to run its universities and colleges. It’s the third largest single item in the budget after health care and public education, and that’s in a historically low-interest-rate environment. If you think of the province’s $315-billion debt as several massive public mortgages, then it mostly holds fixed-term debt. That means, just like a mortgage, payments are set for a number of years before a term comes up and, depending on what interest rates are, they are then renegotiated. 40 per cent of it will come due within the next five years. http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/ontario-owes-315-billion-dollars-and-keeps-borrowing-heres-what-will-happen-when-interest-rates-rise But of course there is absolutely nothing for anyone to be concerned about. That is if you have a vast amount of money you are sitting on and don't care how much of it you give to the government each year.

You must have real deep pockets since Wynnebag keeps dipping into it more often and for more money than ever before. The cap and trade / carbon tax will drive a couple of more nails into the Ontario industrial coffin as business chooses to operate elsewhere and on top of that everything and I do mean everything will end up costing you more as business passes on their increased expenses in the way of higher prices on groceries. goods and services. Nothing will go unaffected. Add to that a whole new government bureaucracy of overpaid people to feed at the taxpayer trough to administer the new system.
  15. Umm.... yeah. I have looked at the current models and what is out there in pickups doesn't come up to par with the King Ranch or the Platinum. The Chevy / GM pickups are just plain FUGLY. I am contemplating a Platinum instead of the King Ranch this time.
  16. 120,000 totally trouble free driving on my 2011 F150 King Ranch. Friend just bought a new Chevy Silverado, drove it from the dealership to the cottage and with less than 300 on it the thing wouldn't start the next morning. It had to be towed to the dealer and they spent 3 days working on it finding a whole bunch of small problems that added up to it not starting. I compared the comfort features on my 5 year old F150 to his brand new Silverado that he says has all the bells and whistles. The 5 year old F150 is still better. I'm looking at a new truck, not because I need to replace it but just because I want new. The 2016 F150 Platinum and the King Ranch features far exceed what the competitors offer.
  17. Lots of kids come into money and manage to lose it all. He manages to keep growing that wealth. Without the smarts to survive in business that money would have all been gone. He also has to answer to the shareholders and investors. You can't be a dummy and keep those people happy as well. They want their money to grow.
  18. Keep pretending it could never be you dumb ass and ignore reality. Continue in your bubble of bliss and ignorance.
  19. Who said cower in fear but to say wgaf is stupidity. So in your mind do nothing, don't give a shit and just hope it never happens close to home.... oh that's right it already has. Won't be the last either. If everyone thought like you we would all be speaking German now.
  20. You will when it is in your neighbourhood. Or kills someone you know / love. Fools that live under a rock think.... it could never happen here or to me.
  21. He knows how to do something you don't..... get stinkin rich and have a lifestyle you could never dream of.
  22. Almost everyone in Canada are the result of immigration. If not mistaken you're American and not Canadian. If so go back where you came from. Just as valid as your rationalization. It was a traffic accident dammit. Next speeding ticket you get, get out of the country. Or perhaps everyone convicted of drunk driving which is a criminal offence over .08 and not born here get out.
  23. Are you ancestors Cree, Iroquois etc. If not you're family are immigrants as well. Should you be sent back to where they came from if you do something wrong as well.
  24. So did I. Only problem is it becomes real obvious when you start a job whether you have the education to back it up or not.
