SkisNH
Why can't we have cheap, high deductible catastrophic policies any longer? Don't tell us the private sector has failed when it's one of the most highly regulated sectors of the economy.

Bullshit econ 101...we have exactly 3 options for health insurance in NH. Imagine if we had 300 companies competing for business. Better yet...make group plans obsolete and everyone gets an individual plan that the are ALLOWED to taylor to their needs. He's not wrong, the private sector has failed healthcare, way too much greed and incompetent waste. It sure isn't the costs that are being regulated, 40% of American adults carry some type of medical debt today. Profits before people, it's amazing the fact that being one of the wealthiest countries in the world and we have the highest healthcare costs. Alot of Americans fear their medical bills more than they fear the disease that they have...........what a great country.

As a self employed guy....before Obamacare I could buy a catastrophic policy with a 1 million dollar limit and a 5k deductible for $220.00 per month. I was pretty happy with that. Especially if insurance companies could go back to denying coverage for individuals with preexisting conditions. Even wITH one coverage isnt what it could be. $1,489 a month and mine doesnt have any prescription drug coverage. Its the insurance companies that have done the most damage imo. I was pretty happy with that. My wife and I are both self employed but I just look at the big picture, it's amazing how bad Americans get raped by healthcare. We simply have too many unimportant hands in the pie that make it costly and complicated. The administrative side is a big one and let's not get started on the ridiculous cost of drugs. Deephaven
Yep. Cheaper to go to a doctor in Europe for a checkup than it is to pay the 10% portion here. Tells a story on inefficiency.
old indy
Thats a fact. my dad spent a week in ICU in France after a blood clot almost killed him. the bill was like 6 grand. if that was here in the states it would have been more than 6 grand a day,, far FAR more ! Hospitals and healthcare institutions have no such regulations

That's a bargain for a one week stay in ICU, would have been 60k or more here. My wife is currently living with a benign brain tumor that has to be monitored, she just had a 1/2 hour MRI session and the hospital billed ins. $6,600
Art Vandelay
Trouble is they lose money on medicare and medicaid (over 50% of patients) so those with insurance or paying on their own get stuck paying for the whole system.

My office is right next door to the towns largest general practitioner group. Couple times I see the pharma reps bringing in lunch to the staff, along with who knows how many other favors. No conflicts there. Bros couple weeks in the hospital was just stupid money. Like you could buy a house.
