Unconfirmed  reports of military coup in Beijing. President Xi Jinping possibly under house arrest.
Chinese President Xi Jinping became one of the top trending topics on Twitter amid unsubstantiated reports he is under house arrest and that China is in the midst of a military coup.

Xi and the phrase #ChinaCoup trended on social media after tens of thousands of users spread unconfirmed rumors that the president was detained and overthrown by the China's People's Liberation Army.

This speculation, which has not been discussed by any reputable sources, arrived as there are hardly any commercial flights flying over the capital of Beijing on Saturday, with unverified reports claiming all trains and buses are also being canceled out of Beijing.

I see basically two reasons to overthrow Xi Jinping:

1. He backed down from an invasion of Taiwan, which hardliners won't like. (Except China has always been a very patient player. Slowly but constantly building up pressure until they get what they want.)

2. China has an economic crisis going on right now, that's barely known to foreigners.
a) There has been a major banking-scandal a few months ago in which millions of people lost their life-savings. The chinese government refused to help. As a result, people are hesitant to invest in chinese banks.
b) The chinese real-estate tax-system is about to hit a deadline that was decades in the making. It's about a certain problem in the way real-estate taxes are collected. China needs an IMMEDIATE and MAJOR update of the real-estate tax-code or there will be a nation-wide real-estate investment-crisis in the next years.
The chinese government of Xi Jinping has not really reacted to these two economic crises, rather downplaying and ignoring them, even though they have the potential to seriously hurt the chinese banking and financial system.

He is the leader of the communist party there. I’d bet he has more control than any of our presidents do

That govt is ran by 2 committee's.   Central and the Politburo's Standing Committee.  General Secretary has power but there is a lot more than just him.

Xi main role is to create fear in people who won’t tow the party line. Kinda like Trump has tried to do. Of course the difference is that in china people disappear. Here in America they are reduced to selling insurance.
