Richard Petty in francecar.

I could see where a strong case could be made for that, but......

Jimmie Johnson-  did it at a time where the competition was greater than Sr or Petty or Allison etc ever saw.

The only real argument is who was the second best :news:

There you can discuss Petty, Gordon and Sr in whatever order you want for second third and fourth

140 of Petty win came before the modern era began and as the modern era went on competition got stronger so I'll go Gordon, Petty then Sr  :snack:

Agreed on the bold, I can't believe I'm saying that, LOL.

Disagree with the rest of it. I would place it as Sr, Petty then Gordon myself :news:

That's a pretty good list, but to not list Johnson in the top 5 is just asinine :news:

The old timers had to drive ill handling shit cars all while not having A/C in their helmets or fresh air to breath.

The new guy all have closer equipment that they old guys did.

Having said that,

SR

Johnson      Flip a coin here with Petty

Petty

Pearson

Waltrip

Kyle Busch is by far the most talented driver I have ever seen in person, but as everybody knows, he's a head case. ( I never got to see SR in person)

At least you are smart enough to have Johnson in the top 5. Also, I'm right there with you on KB, well at least a coin  toss with Stewart :bc:

which is my reasoning for Gordon being ahead of Petty and Sr.  He knocked out more wins against actual competition than anyone else.  Shame he didn't hang on to get to 100

His Cup stats don't show what kind of quality of driver he was. Its a shame he never scored a championship.

no but gordon won more against better competition

Agreed. I put Sr below Gordon for the same reason. Besides, I never liked Sr...lol  I was a Terry Labonte fan.
