Yamaha Sidewinder

Yamadoo

Recommended Posts

Why would he let you ride it then?

An 850 feeling unstable at high speeds?  Best chassis available, and even the engine is centred over the skis.  Perhaps his SW's stability comes from the 630 lbs over the skis.  Let him know that SW's won't steer until BRP pilots are installed.  Everybody on TY has already done that.  Even some dealers are doing it.  :lmao:

And he sold a new 850, after 3 weeks?

Rode my buddies  new Yamaha Sidewinder last week-end. Definitely not a sled for weak armed riders, or inexperienced sledders.

Wicked acceleration, and awesome trail manners, great sounding motor. Stays very stable, even at those 50 KPH high speeds. LO L

I asked the owner why he sold his 850 doo after only owning it for 3 weeks, and he said he wasn,t old enough to go as slow as the 850s top speed would take him. LOL  He mentioned he didn,t feel safe enough on the 850 at higher speeds. It just felt too unstable.

Yup, for all the reasons I mentioned earlier. LOL Great ladies sled.

He kept this due 2 weeks and 6 days longer than another one he had a few years ago.

That one lasted part of the same day. LOL

I guess he got tired of running that thing with the big dogs. And he loves power and  stable handling. LOL

Being a limited sled, he rode it for free, and got a killer deal on a Sidewinder.

Rode it for free, my ass.

Hopefully he kept the BRP skis off the 850..... apparently it's the only way to make a Sidewinder turn.

My Doo dealer says he's sold more skis this year to Yamaha dealers than to Doo guys.  Too bad BRP doesn't stock turbos for them.

:lmao:

Lol now you are talking out of your ASS.   Why would Skidoo guys be buying Skidoo skis if they are Skidoo guys???

Loosen your belt and think before you post, you are embarrassing yourself.

Btw, Frostnuts story of the guy buying a 850 and then trading it in three weeks later for a Sidewinder sounds weak.

Poncho knows the guy, and I think Puzzleboy has met him as well, at Ponchos' cabin. No BS here, this time. LOL

Right over fuzzynuts' head, as usual.  Yeah, why would a BRP dealer stock BRP parts....... :lmao:

The difference is, guys who buy a brand new BRP snowmobile..... don't have to rush out and buy BRP skis to make it turn.  Or Yamaha skis, for that matter.  :)

Gonna smack you with that belt!!

That's because the Pilot skis are the only thing that Doo got right, and they are cheaper than buying aftermarkets. A pair of Pilots is still under $300.

Curves are the ski of choice for the Procross according to Cat guys but they are spendy.

Curve Industries Ski package on sale right now as well for Color skis , Loops , SS hardware , 6" Carbides and the leading edge 799.99 Canadian plus taxes .

Skis are a personal thing. I tried Pilots on my ZR7000 and didn't like them as they drastically increased the steering effort.

On my ZR9000, I've been happy enough with the stocks so I went and bought another set of the offset carbides. They are the ones with the square host bar. Not sure who makes them. But then I'm getting old and ultimate corner grip is not my end goal.

Sounds like Charlie.  I was surprised when he went back to a Doo.  Anyway, I'm sure he will be happy with the Sidewinder.  There is no doubt that the Big 4 Smoke will be more stable at top speed, they are well planted....(read heavy)...  He is right, the Doo is a little twitchy over 90 mph, I never liked the XP platform but for the record I have not driven the Perry the Platypus yet.....I was hoping to ride his.....I'm sure it is fine.  As far as top end, I totally believe him.....it will not run with a 200hp 4 Smoke....nor was it designed to.

for the record, and it's my opinion, but strongly believe the manufacturers have a "hand shake" agreement, similar to motorbikes, where the 800/850 twins, will dart to 90 or so mph and hit the wall, as per gearing and clutching.  Really the light weight 2 smokes are about trail handling and corner to corner speed.  The Sidewinder and ZR9000 are in there own league.  If you don't believe me watch the Livington video Blackstar posted showing a Sidewinder verses an 850.  What I saw, was a 165 hp two smoke running neck on neck with a four smoke 200hp sled for 1/4 mile.  As I said, IMO, the two smokes are geared for 90 - 100 mph and the big 4 smoke geared for the lake, they run with the 800/850 in acceleration by shear horsepower.  I'm riding a new XCR 800 and its extremely quick, not fast, as factory set up, no lake racer, but it will run with the biggest to 90 mph, after that I'm out.

So Charlie will be fast on the lake for sure with the SW.  Myself I would take the lightweight 850 over the SW.....but I ride with the women....

Whatever...but they buy the turbo to be the fastest, so stock they are the same as a Perry?  I think the video would be better if a stock 850 ran against a stock Sidewinder in the same condition.....on that video it would actually mean something......  Now that would be more useful.  I wonder why no one posts that type of video

No, they are not the same as a Perry unless you are running a short distance. The longer the distance the farther the turbo will be ahead.

When I used to radar run with local guys we usually ran 2000-2500 feet.

Exactly.  Ok, let's show a video of a modded 850 that runs 140, or an old Mach Z for that matter that ran 128 stock, 145 modded.  Who gives a fuck?  With money, anything will be fast.  Doesn't give it reliability, or longevity.  And some of us still trail ride........

Don't get me wrong, performance is everything.  And EVERYTHING is underpowered, in my opinion.  I've ridden a bike and driven my car well past 260, and the scenery was fast enough for me.  Do I care that it can do 340 modded?  Could care less......

I truly don't understand the turbo fascination, but I'm not a 16 year old boy wanking to Supertrax anymore.  Modded Machs (a 12 year old design) will smack that SW silly.  Does it mean I want a modded Mach?  No thanks.

Yep, I know that and of course the turbo better pull in a long distance....I just would like to see an honesty heads up run.....no one ever does that....

"Your"?  When calling one an idiot, use proper grammar.  It might have a bit more cred......

Poncho, kindly inform the uneducated (looks at Tim).  What did your 2005 Mach Z run on the gun?  I believe you posted it before.

Never mind "cellphone GPS" inaccurate shit like in Tim's Sidewinder porn video.....

2005 Mach Z 123 mph on ice, buddies 2006 Mach Z 122 mph, same day side by side....that's important because the speeds change by day and time......if we both were on snow those speeds would be 20 less....... I don't care about the speed....that video  that Tim posted would have real value if that Sidewinder was stock and ran against a stock 850 Perry or a XCR 800.  I can clutch my XCR800 to run with a stock SW, but it would defeat the purpose of having an XCR.....

anyway who the fuck cares.....just show me factory races, no modded shit.
