The power of health insurance companies

I'm thinking once the equipment is paid for it is pretty good.

I know my x-rays were pretty cheap though.  Like under $100 for them.

Xrays are cheap. Then there’s the technician fee and of course the imaging specialist fee.

$1500-1800 out of pocket for my CT scans, 2x-4x a year.*

*Edit: Max OOP of $6500.

I just looked up my last imaging costs.

$153 for Xray of neck.

$1241 for CT no contrast.

$2223 for MRI no contrast.

I’m at 1.4 million in insurance costs this year. Roughly 2.5 million since 2016. I don’t wish my crap on anyone, I would love nothing more than my “old” self back! Hope you are doing ok yourself

I'm very well aware of how it's billed, I had a bout with cancer a couple years ago. After my surgery the nurses kept asking me how my pain was, I said I'll let you know when I get the bills. :lmao:

Well, I'm going through the same thing and despite some of the shortcomings, I'll take the way it is right now over other options.

Still lots of up and down days and anxiety.  Made some difficult choices the last 6 or so months, but I hope it is for the better.

Hope things are going better for you too.

After going through this thread and many on other sites....thank god I'm in canada .

You are 32 years old and get a referral for a CT scan that odds far and away say isn't cancer.

How long do you wait to receive that CT scan on they standard government provided healthcare?

Between referral and my second CT scan was 3 weeks, including "pre-approvals", which drove me up the damn wall that it took that long.

Would be longer her I'm sure. But surgery and hospital stay are pretty much free

I had to have pre-approval for my surgery, which the company my insurance contracted with for pre-approvals managed to massively fuck up.

I called them up and in no polite way explained to them I'm going into surgery the day I'm scheduled to go into surgery, even if it means me coming into the place waving a fucking handgun around to make that happen.

They changed their pre-approval dates for surgery pretty damn quick after that phone call...

I'll pay my $6500 out of pockey/year for that.

Well here’s to better days ahead! I have my ups and downs as well. Still need a new career, which isn’t easy with COVID and my health. Another CT scan Friday looking for more nerve issues I have in my face. It’s always something it seems!

Speaking of health insurance... called to ask how many PT visits I have annually and how many I’ve used. Asked if I could get an extension, was told “hard no”. Told the lady it’s one of the few things that provides me some relief, especially using a therapy pool. Nope, sorry. Asked if they would pay for one in my house, nope, sorry. “We get that question a lot though”. Yes, because it works for pain relief! But they will gladly pay for surgeries and drugs, when a damn pool helps strengthen muscle and relieve pain while being easy on joints! I just shake my head most days at all of it.

they would not pay for the ice machine after my sons surgery,  asked the lady why they would not pay for that but they will pay for his rehab when he gets hooked on oxy.  it was only $500 but it was the principal.

You didn't say that on the phone did you? They could take that as a threat, you have to be smarter than that.

The chances of America having a realistic, honest, and cost effective healthcare model is slim to none. When healthcare is traded on Wall Street like pork bellies, human life and health takes a back seat to the profit takers.

I bought one myself for $200 off amazon. Best $200 I ever spent. My insurance company also refused to pay. I told the insurance lady gatekeeper that they might want to reconsider as it sped along my recovery process and saves them money in the long run. I also suggested that an ice machine decreases the need for pain meds which in turn decreases the likelihood of addiction. I knew that those were wasted words though.

yup,  his dr uses them over pain meds as much as possible.  My son only had a handful of his pain meds each time.  Second time i didn't even fill the script just gave him a few of the previous years pills.

I wasn't looking to get a pool installed in my house, but I can bet it's a hell of a lot cheaper than more surgeries and PT! Insurance won't cover simple things like dry needling, acupuncture, etc either. I find relief will all of them. But don't worry, take a few Valiums and all your problems go away! What surgery did your son have? My first surgery in 2016 they had no problem handing out pain pills like pez, but the following year they were much more strict. Surgery in NY past 2 years were limited to 10 day supplies of pain meds.
