Neal Too many farmers taking out huge dept. Lots of great farmers out there, most of them are horrible businessmen. You have to be both. This bubble always bursts every 10 years or so in this area. washedupmxer
The timing for tariffs was terrible especially for farming. The last quarter was better hopefully it's a start

The ones making money sell parts off to developers and buy more land elsewhere for cheaper.

How many BTOs don't take out massive yearly operating loans though? It's commonplace. Neal

Big guys soak up some loss on land price to keep the machines moving. The middle sized farmers are going to take a beating the next few years. Markets have shifted, we are getting to near gluttonous supply levels, even during bad years for many farms. Prices have plateaued, no real forecast for bullish markets... Rural America is gonna get another punch I fear. Neal

Gold Member BOHICA Posted February 21, 2020 Gold Member Share Posted February 21, 2020 Google says only at an 8 year high.... so 8 years ago more farmers filed for bankruptcy... and google said only 595 farmers filed for bankruptcy in 2019 compared to 498 in 2018. 595 across the nation bankruptcies doesn’t really seem like a lot. Worth a watch. What did the report say about corn and bean stocks for this fall. USDA projects corn up to 2.637b bushels up from 1.892b last season. Soybeans projected to have 340m bushel carry, and that's granting China returns to normal importing levels, which seems unlikely.
