As Illinois Prepares To Legalize Pot, Public Housing Tenants Not Allowed To Partake

Recreational pot is about to become legal in Illinois, but Chicago's Housing Authority says not in our backyard or front yard or anywhere on public housing premises, for that matter.

Housing voucher recipients received a letter from the agency last week, warning them about the ramifications of smoking or possessing pot on federally funded grounds even after it becomes legal on Jan. 1. In a nutshell, those who violate the federal law could face eviction.

"While federal law prohibits marijuana use and possession in federally subsidized housing, the [Chicago Housing Authority] is working to educate and inform residents so they understand all applicable laws related to cannabis and federally-funded housing," spokeswoman Molly Sullivan said in a statement.

The statement continues: "The CHA will work with the City of Chicago as it develops rules and regulations in accordance with existing state and federal laws in order to ensure a safe and responsible implementation of legalized cannabis in Chicago."

That's hilarious. Chicago housing projects have always been a den of drugs and crime. Now that's it's legal they are going to crack down? I don't see it.

Got a chuckle out of that myself.

FTR I support recreational marijuana but I also would support a ban on all tobacco, drugs and alchohol in government subsidized housing.  You got money for cigs,  pot and booze you don't need the taxpayers paying your rent.

We should institute the same rule for those who subsidize shit wages by gaming the welfare system.

Yes, wages should be based on the success of the people that started , grew and financed the company.

Exactly, workers should be paid more so they don't have to rely on welfare to supplement their needs and greedy employers don't get subsidized by taxpayers.

Very well. And we just added premium health insurance too. None of our employees need to supplement their needs with public assistance.

“ all things must be taxed” , except for your families farm eh?

or did you forget that little exemption for yourself?

So you are stealing from your employees, shame on you.  Those profits belong to them.

Bezos, Walmart, etc:

Pays employees so little that they qualify for public assistance

Small medical cannabis grow:

Pays good wages and provides great health insurance. Zero employees need public assistance.

Bootlickers:

These are the same.

They should. They may eventually seize the means of production for themselves during the proletarian revolution. I hope they do. I will do everything I can to help.

Hopefully, they feel I'm valuable enough to keep around.

Otherwise I can only advocate for them to my business partners, who aren't socialists but know that I am and that I see things from that point of view.

One partner, our CEO, isn't even drawing a paycheck yet. Our COO and I just started getting paid this summer, and our workers have been getting paid for about a year. We gave raises to employees early this year, well before any 'execs' got paychecks. Some of our employees make more than the COO and I do right now because of overtime.

So I guess you could say we're spreading things around pretty well compared to literally any other company, lol.

he'll I have always thought any public assistance should require drug testing .

if a trucker or factory worker or really any asshole working for a company has to piss in a cup to work to pay taxes . then the people on the receiving end of that person's hard work should sure shit need to piss in a cup also to spend his money .

if you have money for drugs you have money for food
