Consumer electronics is the largest export China has going to the US, and much of those components are R&D here and then built overseas for cost efficiency, I think we can agree on that. Now with that said we don't have enough of the low labor in this country to build that kind of stuff, and our presidents immigration policy certainly doesn't support bring in those low cost workers, so what is the purpose of chasing something we really can't do? We know that educated people aren't the people who build widgets and we know they don't do grunt work, it's a clustefuck of policy for a complicated issue. No but we also use it to leverage them to buying more of our products. Most everything in the bold I've been saying since the beginning of FSCE except for the part of bringing in low cost labor as it has many other consequences that outweigh us being able to do too much. We can't produce everything we consume but with our ability to consume (size of the US market) and buy from other places that should be used as leverage as to buy from us product that we produce or can produce in excess of our needs. I'm not advocating that we operate under a completely balanced trade policy but if you are going to have access to our markets there are certain things that must be met....the first and foremost is equal tariffs of which hasn't been occurring with many countries. For example China applies a 25% tariff to cars we export while we only were applying a 3% tariff on theirs. Trade is probably the most complicated foreign policy issue we have. Walmart has already said it will work with suppliers from other countries then China to try and maintain prices..... China is fucked the longer this goes on as US importers explore other countries to fill the needs. Short term maybe. By 2030 China GDP will over take USA.
