The border agents want a wall to fix their problem. Their problem in the grand scheme isn’t the big issue. A wall will help them with their problem and make their lives easier. That isn’t up for debate. The issue really is about what is the best for solving the grand scheme aka the big picture. If this is about stopping drug and people traffic across the non-walled sections, a wall will help. If the issue is where to spend money to stop drug traffic from south of our country and illegal immigration from everywhere, the wall isn’t going to make an impact worth its cost. That problem isn’t about the expanses of non walled territory. It is about visa overstays, drugs entering from legal ports of entry, and the demand for those drugs and illegals. Of course Border Control wants a wall. That makes sense for their little piece of the pie. They aren’t effective against people that 66% of are coming in legally and becoming illegal due to visa overstays. As effective as a wall is, a ladder is just as effective. Without the manning to quickly respond to a breach, which they don’t have, a wall is a speed bump. Does it make it harder? Sure. Does that level of challenge make it worth $5-20B? Nope.
